Do UK fans really give you guys a hard time? Different conference, plus they're so consumed with Louisville I'm surprised that they even bother to look down on you guys.

My office full of UK fans cheered when Kenyon Martin broke his leg.

that pisses me off

me too..you guys were the best team in the nation that season up until that moment. That was heartbreaking...

Duke? They won't even play ECU anymore. Until they decide to try us again they can't be considered better. Let's see it on the field.

WTF does this mean? the all time series is 5-5 and the last time we played it was 2005 and we beat them 24-21. Not to mention the last time we played in durham duke snapped their 40 game losing streak against us in 2002.

How can we say state doesnt fill their stadium every week but we do? State has a great atmosphere, and while I love seeing them lose I also enjoy the tailgates and atmosphere at their games and IMO is a step above ECU in terms of having a big time feel. Im sure they have empty seats some games, but we have our own issues in terms of filling our stadium week in and week out. Towson and VT will probably be the only games close to a sell out this year.

This post is pretty much spot on. The insecurity and resultant over-compensating from fellow ECU fans is more than I can bear sometimes.

Just for the record. The decision to no longer renew the series was made by Duke after 2000 and the last two games sited were under contract before Duke backed out. The 02 game sited was in the pouring rain and Paul Troth first start at QB. I know I was there in the pouring down rain. Games in 99 and 2000 were 27 to 9 and 38 to 0. In 99 Jeff Kerr put Duke's QB out for the season and absolutely punished him unmercifully with 3 Sacks and multiple hits. Duke wanted out after these two games. Duke wants no part of us anymore only used us for gates and money. Now that they have a ton of money by virtue of conference affiliation no need to take the risk of losing. Just the facts.

Duke refuses to play us in football. They haven't won a bowl game btw since 1960. They were extremely fortunate to catch us in 1994 their lone decent year over 2 decades. If relegation would've existed in college football like I hear XM radio talk about and compare to English Premier league soccer. Then Duke would sitting around division 3 right now after all of those garbage years.

BTW, we were a terrible matchup for DUke the last couple of years. When they face a team that can throw the ball, they lose!

Good gosh, man, Duke has been in the ACC for 60 years, they need ECU like a hole in the head. They hosted Alabama in Durham in football 2 years ago. Do they need ECU? Why? Historically Duke has lost to everybody in football so what makes you think they are "ducking" ECU? They can schedule anybody they want. Schools like Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Tulane, Stanford are all natural OOC opponents. ECU is not.

They have basically said they are ducking ECU. They tried to use certain excuses, then added Memphis to the schedule. If you ever saw an ECU game @ Duke when it's soldout over capacity at 30,000+ and 22,000 of those people in Durham are ECU fans, you would know why they don't want to play us. Games in Durham turn into ECU home games.

Duke haters outside of NC don't get this. Duke outside of Durham, it's students/faculty, has no REAL fans in NC that attend games. They have Duke/Walmart hoops fans that love Coach K, winning, and NBA talents. Those people have maybe attended 1 Duke game in their life and never thought about going to a football game.

I remember telling a random Big 10 guy about this once in Vegas who hated everything Duke. I told him I am no fan, but you never have to worry about them during football season and they have very few real fans. He seemed baffled by this, I told him UNC was this the real obnoxious fanbase, this was circa 05 when UNC was about to cutdown the nets.

First of all they played Alabama 5 years ago. Second of all it was a a home and home scheduled when Alabama was recovering and putting up Kentucky like records.

I figure Duke doesn't want to see their crap football stadium overrun with ECU fans. Would be double suck to sit in your own stadium, watch your team get crushed, AND have to listen to the opposing teams fans cheering enforce.

Too bad too...Duke is fun to beat in anything. We beat them in the belk bowl a few years back and I loved it. We scored two td's in the final minute or two to beat them. I thought their coach, Arnim Zola's head was going to explode.

As stated before they played us for the gates. Prior to BCS they may have had 5,000 people go to their games. ECU guaranteed them sellouts and money. To think they get the money they do now because of their football history is an absolute joke. Vandy, Northwestern and etc, couldn't bring what we bring which is fans and money.

And the stadium was full of Alabama fans who bought season tickets to duke football that year for less than the price of one Alabama home game.

You bet they do.

You have to understand the geography of our area. The only thing dividing the city of Cincinnati and the northern part of Kentucky is the Ohio River (what we refer to as Northern Kentucky). Northern Kentucky is a cluster of large and nice suburbs. People in Northern Kentucky get ribbed on by their fellow Kentuckians to the south for living in Ohio suburbs. To compensate, the folks in Northern Kentucky take the "Proud to be from Kentucky" things to a whole new level. Some of the most passionate UK fans in all of the Commonwealth live in Northern Kentucky.

Cincinnati draws their ire here. Most of them did not even go to UK. We get a lot of banter from them for being an urban university and a lot of racial undertones are played out (even though UC is about 88% white).

Can confirm. Went out with one of my friends and her friends from Cincinnati. They were all awful UK fans.

And to think Temple complains about Villanova.

Check this thread out on NC States forum and you'll see why East Carolina fans are so defensive sometimes. Even though State is the only ACC team to lose to us in basketball, gets regularly beat in baseball every year by us and since 87' is 4-6 against us including a beat down at their place in which ECU fans took the stadium over the last time we played, they still look down their nose.

Remember the scene in Meatballs?

"And even if we win, if we win, HAH! Even if we win! Even if we play so far above our heads that our noses bleed for a week to ten days; even if God in Heaven above comes down and points his hand at our side of the field; even if every man woman and child held hands together and prayed for us to win, it just wouldn't matter because all the really good looking girls would still go out with the guys from Mohawk because they've got all the money! It just doesn't matter if we win or we lose. IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!"

RE: This is where ECU fans are coming from
I think it is so funny....we barely exist but they can quote all kinds of statistics about ECU football attendance, what are plans are for future facilities, how much revenue we generate in student fees, how much our alumni give, our budget, how much fans support we have in the state the list goes on and on but yet we don't matter. Hell, I am a fan and do not know all that information....yeah we don't matter to MooU fans. The ECU to the SEC is a fun topic to discuss not only ECU fans but for some SEC fans too. The only way to expand into VA (VaTech) and maintain a solid map of states like the SEC has stated it wants to do is to find a NC school...it is not about ECU so much as a need to fill in the map in order for VT to ever be in consideration.
