Both on the road....Schedule does us no favors this season...

I'm just not sold on the "USM turnaround" yet. I'm not saying USM can't make it to a bowl in 2016 or 2017, but USM just doesn't have the talent that it used to have. IMO, it will take a couple more recruiting classes for USM to have bowl talent at every position. I see 4 to 5 wins for USM this year.

I agree, but there are some very weak teams on our schedule this season. We may eek out 6 wins.

Talent, while better than years past, still isn't where it needs to be.

What we are hoping for this season is that the team learns how to win. The team is full of players who haven't won much at all.

Shifty, have you made out to any of the fall practices? I was able to make it out to a practice, and the talent level has increased tremendously since last year. Many more athletes on the field, and much more depth. It is very obvious on the DL and at LB.

I'm not questioning the talent level increasing but I always wondered how anyone could tell this by watching players going against teammates.

If one player is looking good then it must mean someone else is getting beat and isn't it a lot easier to standout against less talented players?

Not always the case. If you practice against a guy who isn't talented then you will never get better. Having elevated our talent level raises the competition level. Someone will always win and lose in Offense v Defense drills. The question is, did that person failing cause them to do better the next time?

Damn. You guys may not win either one. That sucks. If you can pull it off somehow, you'd get a few top25 votes. Do you get Louisiana Tech at home?

O4, some in life look at the negative aspects of everything, and Shifty, by the way he posts here, is obviously one of those people. Must be a miserable life.....

No I haven't, and I believe you. The team is more talented. But to be talented enough to start competing for championships again, it must be like night and day.

At least 50% of our defensive players who played significant time last season simply are not FBS football players.

Hope you're right about DL and LB, especially LB. Worst crop I've ever seen last year. We cannot keep giving up 200+ yards rushing per game and expect to win. Must find a linebacker capable of covering a back in the flats.

I think we'll see improvement, but I'm not ready to crown ourselves quite yet. Too many question marks, nothing has been proven yet.

The only time I've been miserable is when I've been watching our team try to play football the past three seasons.

Hopefully that changes this year.

WKU finishes 2nd and USM goes to a bowl. My predictions are usually spot on so write it down.

not that i'm a bot that explains things but my guess is since he's a marshall fan he's suggesting second in the east.

because i've seen a whole lot of 'undefeateds' in the prediction column by them. for him to suggest second in the ccg he'd have to believe western wins the east. i can't keep track of all the different marshall fans so i don't know if he's in the david koresh mold of marshall is god's voice to college football with doc as his prophet or a realistic fan with a realistic prediction.

but rest assured. second in the east.
