RE: Rice Football Marketing
Fantastic video. Not only in the message and how Rice Football is portrayed , but the production value is outstanding.
Is it just me, or do we seem to have an actual athletic department that knows what they're doing?

Makes you want to run through a nearby wall, or at the very least open and close a nearby door with aplomb and enthusiasm. In the words of Coach Bailiff, "I'm fired up!" Amazing video! And special kudos the marketing team for the slogan "Fly With Us!" It hearkens to the "Fly Damn Owls" team slogan of 2013 but obviously is more inclusive of the fans. Absolutely love the renaissance that is taking place on South Main. Thanks for the post OldOwl!

Best slogan since "Wings Over Texas" with a bumper sticker using the Wings on the helmets.

RE: Rice Football Marketing
You know...we've talked for years around here about a culture change and big wins...and we can debate until we're blue in the face about whether we've moved in the right direction regarding the mythical "signature win."
With that said, I feel like this is the first year where I"ve heard from top-to-bottom (AD to players and everyone in between), "We have to start beating a Texas, a Baylor, an A&M." Might it be that we actually are experiencing, to some degree, a culture change (partly due to winning, partly due JK and the new administration)?

I think it's even more than just players saying it - I think it is players buying in and believing it. And that is because the culture is changing from the top down. Now hopefully the confidence the team is exuding translates to the football field and the stands. I'm guessing that this is the first time in a long time where a senior class has been able to lead a winning program.

Fantastic video!!!! Kudos to all who helped put it together. It goes without saying that there is a new spirit in the Athletic Department. We all need to do our part to make sure that their efforts are noticed and rewarded.

Interesting: Rivalries are still regional. The video touches on old SWC schools several times. No mention of who we actually play in conference.
Well done.

Good grief, does the new athletic department have their $h!t together or what?!? Bravo! And apps for fans, flexible ticketing options, just so many good things happening!

RE: Rice Football Marketing
The Fan Experience Committee met a couple of weeks ago for the first time. The meetings are chaired by Jana Woodson (Director of Marketing), Tanner Gardner (Chief Revenue Officer) Shu Muthyala (General Manager of Ticket Sales and Service) and Paul Lockhart-Korris (Director of Business Strategy).
The intent was to get a committee comprised of a cross section of Rice athletic supporters. On the committee there are alums/non-alums, two current students, several older supporters (yeah I am raising my hand on this one), two former football players, Professor in the Business School, a member of the Rice investment team. The selection is amazingly diverse.
While we didn't get quite through the agenda Jana and Tanner had created it wasn't because of widely differing opinions. Almost every single discussion found the group in complete agreement. Several ideas were presented by folks on the committee that Tanner took note of and would look into. One of these was related to the new parking charge and season parking passes. There was concern about how quickly the money exchange would take place in part due to an unawareness that we are now charging for parking. It was suggested that there should be signs before entering the parking lot at several places advising of the parking charge. Also it was suggested that at the customer service tents on the concourse the department should sell the season pass. This was just one item but shows the type of things the committee is looking at and the response by the athletic department.
It was decided that sub-committees would be helpful so two were created. One centers around gameday experiences at the various venues along with ticket sales. The other will concentrate on communications and marketing. These will meet for the first time next week.
While most of the agenda/discussion isn't ready for general release I will point out one thing that surprised me and others. The surveys many of us received after attending MBB, BB, and FB games last season were created by Paul Lockhart-Korris. He personally went through all of them and in many cases went back to the respondent with additional questions or comments. Personally I was shocked when he said the number of returned surveys numbered between 1500 and 2500 depending on the survey. This is a far better response than I would have thought and I think it shows that the fan base is beginning to buy-in to this athletic administration and are willing to make their opinions known and expecting that those ideas will be truly be considered.
Just thought I would pass this along since this thread was praising the marketing efforts by the athletic department.

Thanks for passing this along.
As pretty much all of us on the Parliament have already realized that this AD and his entire department are already light years ahead of the their predecessor, and hearing about meetings such as this only reaffirm that not only was JK the right choice for the job, but it appears that those he was involved with hiring were as well.
Luckily the fact that we have a highly competent and passionate individual behind the held of the Athletic Department appears to be affecting the fan base in positive ways. Hopefully this is reflected in the turn out at the football games this season.
