Think of how quickly fireworks are shot off at homers during baseball games. It'll be right away.

Northwestern does fireworks after their TDs. I am sure it is so quick due to JP and his world class firework launcher though.

My thought's exactly.

I am all for increasing attendance, but I'll miss the cannon. I wonder if there was some politics involved by letting the Guard raise the new mascot, Mission, just to keep them involved.

Anyone remember the team of dogs pulling the sled? I wish they would bring that back too.

And when we beat Ball State we'll even shoot 'em off before the game ends!

I don't see the Endzone Club raising a significant amount of money in the long term. Once the novelty factor wears off, I don't see it drawing that well. Especially when fans realize it's not a good place to watch the game. $125/game is a steep price for what you get (and don't get). Most anyone that can afford that price every game is going to spend their money on the Coaches Club.

RE: Cannon at Huskie Stadium no more!
I just read the first post on this thread. I haven't rear the rest. I'm not going to sugar coat it. I think this is a shame. (I guess I did just sugar coat it! haha)

So much for building on tradition. And the comments in the HuskieWire article-- they are just trying to find justifications! "Some people near the cannon didn't like it." Really? Come on! I don't like the terrible sound system. Are you going to change that?

We don't have much that is ours. The cannon is ours. And we can't find a way to accommodate that truly NIU tradition?

That's not good.

And I understand someone thinks there is money to be made, but it all starts and ends with fan experience, and that was a nice part of it.

When are we getting a flyover???????

There's really nowhere decent to put the cannon now. Not sure what everyone wants them to do. If it was outside the stadium it would be pretty pointless. Anywhere else on the field level it will be in the way or too close to paying customers. I don't know if the end zone club will be successful in the long run but at least it's another way to generate some revenue for now. Hopefully that section of the stadium is bowled off in 5 years anyway.

Perhaps that's the long-term point of it. It was going to have to be moved to allow for the enclosure of the south end, so why not get people used to it not being there.

Honestly, I really don't care if it's there or not, but one of my favorite parts on gameday was seeing the look on people's faces if they weren't prepared for the cannon to be shot off.

I would rather have the endzone club. Understood it's not the best view, but at least you can see the field, unlike to coaches club. Especially for the weeknight games, having a warm place to kind of roam in and out of (and booze) will be a pretty big draw.

I'm probably going to try it for the Murray State game and then if I like it get it for one of the weeknight games.

And I don't think the point is to raise a significant amount long term. Hopefully there are seats there long term.

Disappointing. I know my brother-in-law didn't like the cannon, too loud. He's a musician though. I thought it was great. I think they could still move the cannon outside the stadium. Where do they shoot the fireworks off from? That isn't in the stadium either.

RE: Cannon at Huskie Stadium no more!
Is it really a tradition if no one has ever called it a tradition? Listen, I liked the cannon myself, but i'm not going to shed a tear over losing it. It's not like I saw a bunch of NIU shirts on gameday with Cannons on them with some tag line like "Making Noise: An NIU gameday tradition" written on them. (though I think I just came up with a sweet shirt, a little too late I'm afraid). My point is this, the cannon although cool and loud wasn't a tradition and therefore doesn't need to stick around. The South Bowl will need to be built there anyway so it's days were numbered. Fireworks will be shot from the Yordon Center and will be pretty cool i'm sure. The only tradition NIU has going for it right now is winning, and that's pretty great. Now, lets get those seats filled and enjoy another season of NIU football.

Well....we still have the "red" "black" chant. Now, let's just figure out how to do it right.

Yea that seems to be the only tradition left and it's on life support.

Does it do anything but distract you from the game if you are participating....or annoy you if you are not?

It's about the only time during the entire game that the West side doesn't sound like a library. And the East side gets into it too.

Oh I agree that people are loud but they are not paying attention to the game...or are annoyed by it.

I have fun with it and give it my all but I definitely lose focus on the game.

If you can't yell "red" or "black" while watching a football game then you have bigger problems. If it annoys you then I'm really not sure why you are attending a college football game. People obviously love it and it's the only chant the stadium does in some sort of unison. If they would do it during the fourth quarter when we are on defense that would be great.

03-lmfao Yes I do...my kids stand on the bleachers while they are yelling along with me and I am worried that one of them will fall.
