Am I the only one wondering why stAte gets so much love? I get y'all were quite injured last year.....

I see whoever wrote that clown article didn't admit it. What the hell is a "G5Writer" anyway?

If I were a Stink fan I'd just mention these guys still haven't purchased their own domain name.

I get what you are saying and agree with you. I think this year will answer that if we can keep our guys on the field. One thing I have wondered is how we would be looked at if this was Freeze' s 5th year or Malzahns 4th. After each year we have we start off with a different coach and try to build on our rep from scratch. That has hurt the perception of stAte by outsiders.

It doesn't matter, it's still got to be proven on the field.
Look at ThUGA, they routinely get ranked high and it gets in the Dawg Nation's head that "this is the year" , then when they underperform the fire Mark Richt bandwagon gets cranked up again.
I'd rather not be ranked high to start with.

Yes. They broke the Sun Belt record in scoring last season. That's enough to have them ranked fairly high. Even if they're defense is atrocious again, they will win a lot of shootouts.

8th is too high - for now. Defense will have to prove it has improved for that even to be possible.

However . . .

14 Season ending injuries. Last time we had that many we came back in 2011 and won the Sun Belt after going 4-8 and firing a coach. This time we have the entire staff back - including 5 assistants who turned down offers to go to go to bigger schools. They know we're set up to be very good.

There was a big difference in defense from when stAte beat Utah State early by holding them to 14 points including OT, and the last half of the season when our run defense was a joke. Utah State beat BYU after that, and ended up 10-4, and were arguably better than every team in the Sun Belt.

Even if the defense is just average in Sun Belt play, scoring 45 points per game in conference should put stAte in the mix for the title.

with all these different rankings somebody at the end of the year will get to beat their chest about how close they were to getting it right.

6th is too high for App, don't get we wrong I appreciate the love, but, Marshall, UCF, even ECU would probably beat us this year, and Georgia Southern should be in the top 10

Our defense has to actually prove itself. Until it does this is just a random number.

Oh no. Some no name writer with a blogspot page didn't list us. My whole preseason is ruined.

Yeah I'm gonna go ahead and say they probably shouldn't care too much. Kinda like being listed in the 30s on the Orlando Sentinel Countdown.

I would say you're not looking at the whole picture.

Last season (Particularly early in the season), stAte was playing REALLY good ball. By the time they played us, a VERY large number of those players were injured.

Now, most of them are coming back, and have plenty of experience. The same team that beat Utah State will be pretty close to whole and back on the field.

While I think 8th in G5 is probably too high, I can understand the rationale.

I actually have no problem with it. Pretty solid list. Less unkowns about crAppy. Nice way to gen up some chatter about your blog though. the GS fans.
