if you did an upgrade install you should still be able to roll back to your previous OS.

I will upgrade when they rip Windows 7 out of my cold, dead hands. Microsoft sucks and I don't trust them to fix a light switch, much less get a new operating system right. Windows 7 was a fluke.

My parents had the same problem. They ended up calling Dell, they crashed the system and then reloaded everything. It took a day or two.

After updating....you have a 30 day windows to consider downgrading to your previous operating system. Afterwards...you'd be stuck with Windows 10..and have to do a total reinstall of your previous OS.

They won't rip it out of your hands but if you ever have a problem and they aren't supporting it anymore...

I liked 7 too. My PC crashed and had to buy a laptop. It came with Windows 8 (which we use at work) and I subscribed to O365 for $9.00 per month, auto updates etc.

RE: Windows ten info?
I had 7 and upgraded to 10. I had 10 for a few days and it made my system run suuuuuuuuuuper slow. Like, painfully slow. I revereted back to my 7. I was fine with 7 but figured I'd give 10 a try since it was free and all.

Click on the windows 10 icon and act as if you are reserving it again. As soon as I did that it popped up to go ahead and do the install.

Mine first so she can check it out. If I put it on hers first and she doesn't like it, I will probably have to get her a new computer.

Vista doesn't get the free upgrade. It's only Windows Seven and above.

I have done a couple upgrades. Both went without a hitch although I had to roll one back since they didn't like it. I have also done a clean install on my tablet which has to be done with a flash drive. That worked fine as well. No issue with any programs not working. Overall it's a hybrid interface between Seven and 8.1. 8.0 was the worst. You don't really get a choice now about installing updates. I like it better than 8.1 and it's newer than Seven which generally means things work better. I haven't upgraded my Surface tablet yet but may do that next week.

Miracast seems to work even better in Windows 10 than in 8,1 also.

I didn't hang around enough to find out. It slowed my system down so I went back to 7.

Smart. But be very careful with updates.

I'm using 7 pro and thinking I wish they'd never gone beyond XP! 7 Pro is much better than 8 though.

Updates sometimes do that...a better experience is usually achieved through a new install. I did the update...and thus far I really haven't noticed a speed bump either way or a speed hit either (but I upgraded from 8.1).
Of course my desktop is an octo-core with 16gb of memory...so I would not expect many problems.

I never had XP, I stuck with 2000 Pro until I switched to 7 Pro. I have some really, really antique programs that somehow I got to work with 7 but I know won't work with later versions. I hate Microsoft.

because your old programs won't work with a newer OS? Then also hate Apple and Linux. Newer version of operating systems always risk that, and Microsoft has been very good at supporting older applications. The biggest compatiblity break came when they switched to 64 bit. They killed off the support for old 16-bit programs, but even Windows 10 has a 32-bit version that still supports them.

If you used Macs then you'd be in a worse boat. They kill off support for older operating systems pretty frequently.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Apple far more than Microsoft. But no, that's not why I won't upgrade until the last minute. It's because everything Microsoft touches sucks. Did you read what I wrote about last week's update? No notice, no warning, everything wiped out. I was able to restore, yes, but only because I didn't panic. Others could have lost EVERY FILE ON THEIR COMPUTER THAT WASN'T A PROGRAM. Microsoft sucks.
