MBB 2015 Depth Chart
I wanted to do a depth chart of what we could see this next year on the court. I am very worried about this year's team. Our guards will be up there with the best in the league but we have a real problem at the 4 and 5 after Stith and Taylor. I know Taylor is a fantastic player and I have heard that Stith is a game changer but where is the depth?
1: Freeman Caver Bacote
2: Baker Mosley Freeman
3: Bacote Talley Carver Vassor
4: Taylor ????????????????????????
5: Stith? Biberaj Pervier????????????????
It's fairly easy to see my concern.

RE: MBB 2015 Depth Chart
Love Taylor's game, but he needs to pick it up on the offensive end. Not sure what Stith can provide there either. We can't afford to play 3 on 5 when we have the ball.

1. I expect more out of Pervier than 3rd string.
2. Has Douglas been released?

Regardless of the Baker/Bacote positioning. Do you see the concern? I do not share the optimism that most do about the upcoming season.

I expect Stith to be generally more productive than Ross without the highlight reels. I expect Pervier to be more physical than Arledge. He might not score as much, but I don't think overall we are any worse off.

RE: MBB 2015 Depth Chart
My guess is that the depth chart is like this:
1). Freeman. Caver.
2). Baycote. Mosley.
3). Baker. Talley. Carver.
4). Taylor. Stith. Vassor.
5). Pervier. Biberaj.
It is entirely possible that some of these guys could move ahead of others depending on how the practices and early season games go. I also expect that there will be times that either Stith or Taylor move to the 5 position for a few minutes and both Taylor and Stith are on the floor together. If Pervier can provide similar stats to what Arledge provided, and if we don't have any other departures from the team due to injuries, grades, illness, etc., then I believe this coming season could be as good as last and has the potential to be even better.
If someone red shirts then I would guess it to be Carver.

Some of you are really optimistic on Pervier. It would be amazing if he could approach what Arledge was able to do production wise.

From what I've heard...Stith is going to be in the starting 5. I don't really think there's any doubt about that. I have heard that he dominates practice as Trey did when he had to sit.

I think Taylor and Stith will start in the post. They'll be a little undersized, but both are absolutely tremendous rebounders.

If Douglas stays, put him in front of Talley.

Bench production in the front court is the definite concern. Our starting five is awesome though.[/quote]

RE: MBB 2015 Depth Chart
If Pervier can generally be as serviceable in the paint as Arledge, I think we'll be alright. Won't be as quick, but the extra height and wingspan will ideally produce comparable (if not better) rebounding and certainly more blocks.

I think baker starts unless Talley is just leaps and bounds better than he is. I have no idea if that's the case though.

Taylor and Stith both don't bring much offensively. Our offensive next season may be Trey shooting 20-30 times a game and using our tremendous rebounders to go get his misses.

Porter, Stith #2 and Colbert are all forced to sit out due to the transfer rules.

Without seeing him play I don't think it is going too far out on a limb to say that if he is good enough to get significant minutes then I would think that he could approach what the stats reflect for Arledge:
Per Game Average:
8.7 Points (or basically 4 points per half).
4.9 Rebounds (or basically 2 or 3 rebounds per half).
Arledge shot 43.6%, had 19 blocked shots, and 20 steals for the season. The key is if he is good enough to get his share of time on the court game after game. Evidently the coaching staff must think so since they went after him (as did Wichita State I believe). I don't know that answer, but I certainly hope that he is as it would be a big (no pun intended) help to the team.

RE: MBB 2015 Depth Chart
Raw per game averages are dinosaurs in college basketball. Arledge only played half the game but was our best defensive rebounder. ODU played at the 339th fastest tempo last season which greatly impacted per game averages.
Within that, Arledge was our best defensive rebounder, the best at drawing fouls, the best at spacing the floor and the second best on the team at blocking shots. He was our second most utilized player on a per possession basis.
I'm going to wait and see on Pervier.
