FWIW, last year the women's full schedule was announced August 6th. That same day the men announced the conference schedule, but didn't announce the non-conference till August 22nd...

RE: WBB and MBB
I'm not sure if this has been announced yet or not but the men are playing in something called the 2015 Roundball Showcase. As best as I can figure, it's all-campus games involving five teams - Rice, Fresno State, San Francisco, Lamar and Delaware State.

I know we host Fresno State on Nov. 22nd. Fresno is the only team to have released their part of the schedule yet, but it appears the tournament basically goes from Nov. 16 to Nov. 27th. I'll assume we go to San Francisco and host Lamar (?) and Delaware State as part of that tournament (it seems like someone has mentioned we play those teams already but I wasn't aware it was all part of a tournament).

ETA - although I see we have previously announced a few other games including a season-opening game at California on Nov. 13th (so it might make sense if we play at Cal and then USF in that same weekend), and then we host Oregon State on 11/20 and Incarnate Word on 12/29 (and a game at New Mexico TBA).

Quick correction: The Oregon State game is on the 19th... If the Fresno game is on Sunday the 22nd, that'd make quite the sports weekend. Basketball vs. OSU and Fresno State, football @ UTSA.

A pretty nice deal for anyone who will be in Houston for Thanksgiving: three great opportunities to get out of the house and see the Owls.

Ugh, nothing during Homecoming Week (unless they decide to schedule an open practice for season ticketholders, like last year). May have to come back in a week later for the 3 games in 5 days (11/25-29).

We could potentially have a double date in Albuquerque on 12/19. The New Mexico Bowl (a C-USA tie-in) is the same day as the MBB game against the UNM Lobos.

RE: WBB and MBB
Pretty good schedule in year two of the Rhoades Era. Cal will be a big-time sleeper next year and could be top 25 by the end of the year. They obviously will be the toughest team we face in the non-conference. We need to beat either Oregon State or Fresno State at home (or both) to get some early season momentum and confidence.

I am a little disappointed we don't play any former SWC foes. This might be the first year ever in Rice basketball history we don't have Texas, A&M or Houston on the schedule. While that's a downer, 10 or more NC wins might make up for that disappointment.

I get the feeling that we'll up the difficulty of the OOC schedule as the team improves and RPI becomes a legitimate issue.

I think this is a pretty good balance IMO. Two power conference teams, one perennial power (UNM), another G5 team, and then an assortment of other teams.

Feels like last years schedule minus Texas and Houston and last year's wasn't well received on these boards. I'm not sure what in this lineup is exciting except we're sure to win a few in year 2 of The Rhoades Reign. I guess an early season upset vs Cal could be considered a big win. I'm still excited for this year.

RE: WBB and MBB
The biggest difference between this year and last year is eight home non-conference games vs. just five last year. Oregon State and Fresno State are bigger names too than last year's best home NC draw of William & Mary.

I'm shortchanging Cal - they will be preseason top-25 and a possible Pac-12 championship contender. No one else on the schedule is top-25 caliber (unless Oregon State is a lot better than I realize), but there aren't a ton of RPI dregs either. Most of the D1 teams on this schedule won between 14 and 18 games last year.

No SWAC teams either. If the conference is any decent, we have a chance to be okay in RPI if we are improved as a team as we all expect. The schedule certainly gives us a chance to be in the mix for one of the postseason tournaments.
