Are you proud of this country?
Or would you respond with a "Yes, but ..." like me?

I'm generally proud of this country, but the Obama years have taken away all of my enthusiasm for the USA. He's done more damage to us in six years than the Soviet Union did in 72 years.

We're so stupid.

RE: Are you proud of this country?
It's getting hard to be proud. We were once a nation where individualism was valued most. Today a majority sell their freedoms to the government for entitlements that make them feel secure. The problem with that as Greece is demonstrating is eventually the government you rely on runs out of money. Our government has grown into something that serves and supports itself our founding fathers never intended for our nation to become what it has.

Unlike Ms. obama, I am not proud of what this country is turning into. It used to be a great country, now, it's not even a good country. The Libs are taking it to the Caligula era. So sad.

I've visited 18 countries and came to one main conclusion: this is the best country to live in!

Yes still proud. The pendulum swings. It keeps us healthy as a nation.

We can bounce back fast. I remember Jimmy Carter, bless his heart. If hillary is elected it may be time to start looking for a new country though. Australia, maybe.

RE: Are you proud of this country?
It's a complicated question.

I'm proud of our accomplishments. I'm not proud of our people. Then again, I think most honest people feel that way about their respective countries.

I am still proud to be an American.
However, I used to believe America was special and exceptional with a can do, will do attitude.
Now not so much. American's attitudes today seem like "give me mine" and "I'm special"

Precisely. We're moving away from The Greatest Generation to whatever is the diametric opposite.

RE: Are you proud of this country?
It's been a mixed bag from the jump. The Constitution was great but then you get the Alien and Sedition acts, etc, etc.

There was much good early on. More good than bad. Lincoln was the first major turn for the worse. Then Wilson torpedoed our foreign policy. Things looked like they might be coming around again with Harding and then Coolidge. Then it had been body blow after body blow since, with only the underrated Ike keeping things somewhat in check. FDR. LBJ. Nixon. Dubya. Obama. It has gone to piss.

I'm very proud of the original ideas, of the original governing documents, and the original vision. I'm very ashamed of the way they have been squandered, taken for granted, undermined, and ignored.

The Greatest Generation gave birth to The Locust Generation as I prefer to call them ... Baby Boomers.

And they are the ones in charge right now which explains a lot.

Can't say my generation will do any better, seems all they care about is sexuality, possessions, and harder drugs.

Not that I wouldn't agree, but I'm curious to hear which 18.

I'm disgusted by the greed, entitlement, selfishness, bureaucracy, and unhealthiness I see around me.

I'm encouraged by the optimism, perseverance, creativity, boldness I still see around me.

I'm proud of the fact that people of all political leanings stand up and fight for their beliefs, rather than roll over. I'm proud of the fact that most of us stick together when sh!t gets rough.

Of our past and accomplishments, yes. However, The Republic that our forefathers thought up and developed , has fallen and is no more! Shameful!

You're right, they probably never imagined we'd become an imperialistic nanny/police state.
