Was interviewed on radio here in WV yesterday and was asked about Big XII expansion. His answer was basically all about Houston and Cincinnati. Also said there were and are way too many issues involving BYU. Just an FYI

You don't by any chance have a link to a podcast. I'd like to listen to the interview if its available somewhere.

If you google podcast/state wide sportsline with Tony Caridi it should pop up. The eposiode you want was last night's. Second half of the episode is the interview but expansion is only briefly mentioned.

Am I the only one who thinks "who cares?" that we passed the July 1st deadline? All I see that date meaning is that nobody's going jump out of CAA immediately before those ****-off presidents vote to disqualify other schools' kids from participating from their conference tournaments.

I fully expect moves to take over a year. That's the way it should be, so that schools and conferences can make the transitions easier for all.

The July 1 deadline means that no one is moving for 2016-17. Or at least no one is moving for 2016-17 and giving a full 12 months notice.

Texas Tech's president just released a statement saying we should consider expansion in the future but for right now we are fine. Sorry Cincy and others, not happening for you yet.

Meh. Someone else on here the other day summed it up correctly: statements that people are happy with the status quo simply don't have much weight. Outside of the Big Ten's open expansion plans in 2010, pretty much every conference has a knee-jerk response of "being happy where we are now" for realignment questions up until the day that they announce expansion. A status quo statement may or may not be a lie. The Texas Tech president could be telling the truth, but he could also be flat out lying (as we've seen many times in realignment). You can't really say either way. A statement that someone wants expansion, on the other hand, is much more instructive.

It seems like the Texas schools and Bowlsby are falling in line with the UT point of view of not wanting to expand while OU, WVU and others are saying the opposite. Seems like we have a behind the scenes battle raging

OGB why would Tony Caridi think that the UC product is not up to par? I don't get it. Big East 2.0 the 3 best teams were Cincy, Ville, and WVU.
Ville got Kragthorped but rebounded.

Or it can be like the Sun Belt. Where all the AD, president, and commissioner babble translates to this.

"Yes we want to expand but everyone is being buttholes about who to add and so far no one has reached the magic 3/4ths vote level of support."

The more I see all the different views, the more I am believing that the Big 12 is likely going to get ripped up instead of expand

RE: Bill Bender/sporting news
My thoughts:

1. There's enough out there to warrant thinking that if expansion occurs anytime soon Cincinnati and Houston are the front runners.

2. I agree you have to take words on the status quo being good with a grain of salt. That said, sometimes looking at the specific language helps. Most are always going to say they are happy with things as they are now as a default. I don't see enough in Tech's statement though to read it either way.

3. I think expansion is still unlikely for awhile. There's certainly support for it, but it seems to be in the minority position for the time being. I think we'll probably see the CCG rules relaxed next year and at least a season with 10 teams and a CCG before most will want to revisit the issue.

Most WVU fan's dont want to expand. The travel partner thing is GREATLY overblown, especially on this board. Adding Cincy just adds another P5 team in our region that we have to battle on the recruiting trail. Expansion also means we lose getting Texas or OU at home every. The round robin thing truly is awesome, thats not just a talking point our league likes to throw out there

Wise words.

The travel-partner thing is relevant in non-P5 leagues, where budgets really are (by and by) stretched to the bone. Leagues like the Big <XII are a different story.
