Ohio and Ball State are the only teams in the MAC that aren't a directional or named for a city. And if those schools you listed sound like they don't belong, what does that say for Miami, UCLA or East Carolina? As for Old Dominion, we are named for our great state. Not sure how that makes us sound like we don't belong.

Technically speaking Kent State actually is not named after the city. It was actually named for the family that donated much of the land the university now uses. The family name was Kent and it is also the same family of which the city was named.

So Kent shares the same name as the town for similar reasons but is actually not named for the town.

Kent also has the "distinction" of being the only public university in Ohio to be named after an individual due to this reason.

What about Wright State?
Technically not an individual.
Based on the post I responded to, neither is Kent. It's supposedly named after a family.

Sorry I slightly misspoke the University was named for William S. Kent who gave the land.

The city of Kent was named in honor of Marvin Kent for essentially saving the village economically with keeping railroads in town with his shops and the like. William was the son of Marvin.

So the city was named for the father and the university was named for the son.

Wright State chose its name to honor the Wright brothers so technically not named for an individual but a pair (Just found that out looking this up I personally thought they were named for the airbase that gave them the land but that does not seem to be the case).

So you could say that my fact is correct on a technicality though even if you did count it public universities being named for a person are rare in Ohio it seems.

I'd imagine it's easy to forget Wright State, even in Dayton.

Uh, Wright State also isn't in the MAC last time I looked...

If I recall correctly the MAC predates Wright State's founding.

Fun fact: Wright State began as a joint branch campus of Miami and OSU.

I don't have a lot of feelings for most of the schools in the latest version of C-USA (C-USA 3.0), but I feel like SoMiss deserved better.

WKU. They're "little brother" so to speak. I've really loved watching and following their rise from the FCS to the FBS and finally to C-USA ranks. Doesn't hurt that I have a lot of friends who went there.

Oh, come on. Don't start acting like UK. Everyone in BG likes Louisville as well, mostly because we all hate UK.

I voted Western Kentucky, mainly because they're in-state for me.

But could've equally voted for long time rival Southern Miss.

Both Western and Southern Miss have ticked me off at times. But both are decent rivals for Louisville.
