I didn't get to experience the rivalry back in the day so I look forward to visiting Boone.
From here on out I want to see Appy, OHIO, and Little Miami in rotation with at least one on the schedule every season.
I'm not going to trash talk just yet lol. Hard to know where either one of us will be in 6 years.
Let's just hope these won't the only two games we play.
And to the Ga Southern fan saying WMU is probably better than Marshall. You can't be serious can you?
Ok maybe not better. But as good as. And they've never been on probation, so they got you beat there.
I would trade WMU for MU all day, every day
At least someone has some sense. Anyone that truely believes Western Michigan is a better program than Marshall either hasn't been paying attention or knows zero about football.
Oh, I'm just a fan, that's for sure. I'm not an internet AD, armchair quarterback or message board coach, and I'm certainly no expert. Whether I know zero or a little more than that is of no consequence to me, since my livelihood no longer depends on football.
However, I believe Marshall to be a dirty program. I believe its fans (not all, but many of those I've come in contact with over the years) to be among the most obnoxious, loud-mouthed and arrogant I've ever had the misfortune to share a stadium with. And, I believe Marshall to play one of the weakest schedules in the free world precisely because it cannot compete against tougher competition on a week-in, week-out basis.
So until I have reason to feel differently, I'll continue to consider Western Michigan a better program than Marshall. If that's knowing zero about football or not paying attention, so be it.
Besides, if being a fan were a rational thing, then you wouldn't have that silly-assed green billboard attached to your posts.
Dirty program?? How?? Because a coach did what almost all P5 programs do and that's set up players with overpaying jobs? Oh the horror and that was 15 years ago.
And lets not talk about difficult schedules, your in the Sun Belt the worst 1A conference. I would take the Gateway Conference or even the CAA over the Sun Belt. Western Michigan sucks ass and have never done anything at the 1A level

LMFAO you really think Western Michigan is better then us?? Oh and don't worry expect a Home and Home with Georgia Southern announced in the near future since South Georgia is Herd Country now with the way we have been recruiting down there
I'm just gonna give you some rep since it appears looking at your log all the UNC-Cee fans dislike you for some reason, obviously you are doing something right.
They don't like me because I told them the truth and that they don't have no business playing football at this level and they will be an embarrassment to CUSA football

It is just Marshall, what is the big deal? Would a Northern Illinois home and home garnered this much fanfare? Is this a just a case of a former FCS school that is giddy that it is big-time now? Serious question - please explain the allure of Marshall.

Wasn't the last time you played Marshall 1996? by my count thats 19 years and by the time you actually play them it will be 25 years...
honest question how old was most of these fans the last time you played Marshall?
On another note do some of you realize how many fans 4 to 6 thousand are? Of course 4 to 6 thousand but in the stands...
for every hour over 3 a fan has to drive/travel it will probably drop the traveling fanbase 20%. Now those are not hard facts but just facts I've noticed over the years. Add in this game will probably be on a Thursday/Friday/Tuesday and you can drop the number by 50% for each hour of travel....
5 years from now most if not all G5 vs G5 will be week night games ...for TV coverage.
Now for GSU, UL-L, ASU, and Troy fans...how many fans did Appy bring to your home last year? No pissing match of SBC vs Marshall just trying to get a gauge of how much hyperbole we are talking about with those 4 to 6 thousand est

You are using different variables to accomplish your goal of discrediting a 4 to 6 thousand prediction. App State was not previous conference rivals with Ark St, ULL, or Troy. Also all those locations are much further in distance from Boone. There just will not be a way for you to insert the square peg in the round hole on this one. What evidence do you have for the App State fan base our numbers will reduce 20 percent every 3 hours of driving?

Once, years and years ago, Western was in the same conference as EKU and Murry St. Those games were important to the fanbase because we were fighting them for conference championships. It wasn't uncommon for Western to send a couple thousands (basketball) fans to each of those games....
as we got farther and farther removed from each of those schools the number dropped....became less important. There was no conference championships at stake and to most Western fans it became just another game. This might not be the case with Appy but I have a feeling it's more likely to be the same....
Do you ave anything to show Appy brings more or the same amount of fan to a regular season game the farther away it gets? We are not talking big well known P5 program here....
Maybe GSU fans can help you out and show us the 4-6 thousand Appy fans in the stands last year? Surely Appy considers GSU more of a rival than a school they last played in 1996?

The students in the height of the App Marshall rivalry will be in their mid 40' to 50's. I'd say they'll still have pretty vivid memories of those games. The largest concentration of App fans is in the Triad (WS, Greensboro, High Point) area which is 5 hrs to Huntington and 3 hours to Greenville. The second largest is Charlotte which is 4 hours to Greenville and 5 to Huntington. Not a great deal of difference. Of course a lot will also depend on how good we are at the time.

With the game being on Thursday night there were not a lot of App fans in Statesboro. Although I've never personally encountered anything out of the normal drunk student running their mouths, a lot of fans on both sides claim bad experiences at the other's stadium. Because of that a lot of fans from both sides choose not to make the trips.

We last played Marshall in 2002, I believe. Byron "the Big L" Leftwich was their QB. He destroyed us.

I'll just leave these here... These are from the same game and clearly 2 different sections. No, Marshall probably doesn't generate the same fan interest as ECU, but it's a good example of how we travel for games like this.

Last time App played Marshall in 2002, The Turds were ranked 22nd and App was starting a backup QB, but it was only 23-17 late in the third. They just scored a bunch more after that.
