A-State recently scheduled a home and home with AAC member SMU with their new All-Star coach, and it didn't move the needle. Maybe because we have home and homes with Missouri and Miami already scheduled.
It is just Marshall, what is the big deal? Would a Northern Illinois home and home garnered this much fanfare? Is this a just a case of a former FCS school that is giddy that it is big-time now? Serious question - please explain the allure of Marshall.
We're entering our second year in FBS and have scheduled a P5 H&H and a quality CUSA H&H. Not too shabby. It's expected that stAte should be getting this quality H&H on the regular.

Glad to see you all are excited. Nevermind the faction of our fans that just don't get it. I for one have been pushing our AD to get this series rebooted.
I didn't get to experience the rivalry back in the day so I look forward to visiting Boone.
From here on out I want to see Appy, OHIO, and Little Miami in rotation with at least one on the schedule every season.
I'm not going to trash talk just yet lol. Hard to know where either one of us will be in 6 years.
Let's just hope these won't the only two games we play.
And to the Ga Southern fan saying WMU is probably better than Marshall. You can't be serious can you?

It's a big deal because we had a very heated rivalry with Marshall when we were both in the SoCon. It was just as heated as what we have with GS now, and when Marshall left a lot of our people wanted to go with them. Unfortunately our admin at the time was clueless.
For us this game is as exciting as a game with SMU would be. For the health of our program renewing rivalries is more important that which G5 conference a team plays in. Every G5 team should focus on that when scheduling other G5's over worrying about the conference a team is in.

Maybe, but Western Michigan does not have the name recognition of Marshall. Plus Marshall is a former socon rival. I was a student during the Stowers years when Marshall beat us like a rented mule. I need to close the chapter on those years with a beat down of MU in Paulson.
They don't even qualify as "decent" to you?

They were extremely fortunate to move into FBS when they did. With a loaded and experienced senior laden OL and other key positions, the timing could not have been more perfect. Monken set the table for Fritz and he enjoyed the buffet. Now a faction of their fan base has completely lost their minds. Much like some of our fans did after beating Michigan.

OK, I'll play.
In a nutshell it looks to me like Western Michigan beat two of the three common foes you played last year by comparable scores. Broncos lost to Northern Illinois, you beat them. Congrats. I'd further suggest that while neither WM or the Thundering Herd played much of a schedule, the Herd's was arguably easier -- and will be again this fall. Oh, and if the Broncos rarely have a pulse, it's worth noting they also made a bowl. Maybe that's not as big an achievement in FBS as it's cracked up to be, but they still made a bowl.

We finished in the Top 25 of both polls, where was Western Michigan?? I ask because I don't know, but I doubt they were even receiving votes.
Or we could just compare Top 25 finishes, bowl games/wins, Heisman Finalists, average attendance, and facilities if you would like to do it that way too?

Yes, you two share one thing in common, losing series records against App.
BTW, I am glad to see the Blundering Turds back on our schedule as we have had many great games in the past.

Yeah and your weak strength of schedule is the primary reason. I watched the WKU game. Silly.
Which is why we are dropping some of the MAC teams and replacing them with top Sun Belt teams like App St
BTW, I wasn't going to say this, but ah what the heck. I've been nice and you're being, well, not nice lol.
Whether you want to admit it or not. Marshall is one of the top G5 programs in terms of name recognition and brand.
Ga Southern, I hope we get you on the future schedule as well. Heck, I'd love for Marshall, App St, and Ga Southern to form a new East Coast conference with schools that are football first like us. Tired of all this focus on basketball.
New Conf... Heck join the SBC now. We are looking for a 12th. Marshall and App "travel partners".

Would never want Marshall to be in a conference with some of the teams in the Sun Belt. We already have those types of schools in CUSA, be no reason to leave unless we were forming a new conference.

At least someone has some sense. Anyone that truely believes Western Michigan is a better program than Marshall either hasn't been paying attention or knows zero about football.

In their defense, no one said 'program'. Western Michigan should have a very good team this year and are predicted by many to win the MAC for whatever that is worth.

I would rather have Marshall over WMU on the schedule this year for sure. I was just saying Western Michigan is a decent school and could end up better than Marshall this year. I didn't mean to hurt any Marsha fans' feelings. Marsha is pretty too.

At least someone has some sense. Anyone that truely believes Western Michigan is a better program than Marshall either hasn't been paying attention or knows zero about football.
Oh, I'm just a fan, that's for sure. I'm not an internet AD, armchair quarterback or message board coach, and I'm certainly no expert. Whether I know zero or a little more than that is of no consequence to me, since my livelihood no longer depends on football.
However, I believe Marshall to be a dirty program. I believe its fans (not all, but many of those I've come in contact with over the years) to be among the most obnoxious, loud-mouthed and arrogant I've ever had the misfortune to share a stadium with. And, I believe Marshall to play one of the weakest schedules in the free world precisely because it cannot compete against tougher competition on a week-in, week-out basis.
So until I have reason to feel differently, I'll continue to consider Western Michigan a better program than Marshall. If that's knowing zero about football or not paying attention, so be it.
