Surprising no one, #Bama has now doubled its cost of attendance figures to surpass Auburn: http://financialaid.ua.edu/cost/

It was only a matter of time. Here we go.

RE: "Increasing" FCoA numbers has begun
The calculations for each university don't have to be the same amount (and really shouldn't be), but the methodology used by each school to calculate FCOA needs to be the same or we will have insanity. Without standardized methodology, its just a black box that spits out any number you want.

Well it means "regular" students on scholarship may get more money. These figures are used for determining the amounts of some scholarships that are NOT athletic.

Not really, the Pell Grants cover tuition and room and board but not other stuff which is what is considered out of pocket (the COA). It could weigh on the parents the decision of how much money they have to support the child. Auburn may get an enrollment boost and Alabama a enrollment decrease by seeing some of the number they have to present to regular students as part of a financial aid package. Hurts most those who have to take a loan out.

With the financial problems in Louisiana, will LSU be able to keep pace?

They are looking at merging New Orleans with Southern U.-New Orleans campus. New Orleans U. be no more? If that is the case? Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce are looking to join D1.

They might actually have to spend all that money they get annually on the school.

RE: "Increasing" FCoA numbers has begun
It's amazing how the COA numbers are now being advertised where they weren't before. It gives the parents and students more information to decided to where to go to school and which one they will be able to afford or how much money they will need to cover the cost that the financial aid doesn't cover. It was a number that the schools didn't want to advertise but now they are full bore on it.
Law of unintended consequences will occurs with all these numbers being thrown around.

I said "some" scholarships. Some are impacted by this COA figure. That's the reason these things were first created.

There's a fairly recent federal law that makes all of them disclose the figure. Now that it involves sports, the press is paying attention to it.
