The key is to stay healthy.
Our first 6 opponents were all bowling teams. Ouch. If we can go 2-4 I'll be happy.
Which two teams do you think that you'll beat? I know that our defense had a field day with your team last year only because your QB wasn't that good or for that matter your offensive line. At least you've settle one half of your problem with that transfer QB from Michigan. Good thing that we're playing you this time in our place. Unfortunately it didn't help us two years ago with Soza. Is UTEP one of those teams that you think you'll beat?
Yeah, we were down to our 3rd string when we played you guys. The way you guys played that day though, you probably would've won even if our starter had been healthy. And btw, I have a feeling you guys may have turned the corner now with Kugler as your coach, and believe the pre-season rankings that have you around 90 or whatever are a joke. But while I won't venture to tackle your question about which games we might win, I'll just say that it's going to be quite a battle for our QB position this year...
We have Blake Bogenschutz, who was our 2nd string last year, and a true freshman also. He's still a freshman this year since he was injured after playing in only a couple games last season. Kid seems like he could develop into something; good mechanics, good scrambler, 3 stars in HS, and a Dave Campbell's Texas Football Top 300 his senior year in 2013.
There's Russell Bellamy, as you mentioned, who already graduated from Michigan and transferred to us for his 4th and final year of football. He didn't do much at Michigan but he's a big kid with a strong arm who was another 3-star in HS and also had offers from Minnesota, Boise State, Colorado, Purdue, and a great many others. Needless to say, he never found his niche at Big Blue, but he could also develop into something for us if he picks up the offense quickly.
Another freshman QB we have that many may not know about though is Manny Harris. In his junior year, Harris eclipsed RG3's record at Copperas Cove HS for total yardage. He tore his MCL in his senior year (in the 2nd game of the season), came back from the injury sooner than expected, but because of his quick return, wasn't as mobile as he was before, so his stock went down. I don't know whether he'll now be injury-prone, but if he's now healed, he could possibly develop into quite an under-the-radar talent.
We have a couple other guys also, but I see the QB battle being mainly between those three, and we're sitting on pins and needles wondering who's gonna be where on the depth chart once that season opener arrives.
