Per NCAA rules, they are required to reserve a small number of tickets for vising fans (a few hundred)

Is there a section for Rice fans? If so, which section, rows? I'd prefer to sit alongside Rice fans rather than be in the middle of opponents.

Info on the Rice allotment hasn't been released. Also they will be tickets only for the Rice games. Going to the UH site all tickets are all-session passes.

Thanks! Also, I just now received the e-mail from the Rice Athletic Dept. that coming soon will be information on the limited block of seats for Rice season ticket holders. I will wait for that info.

No offense, but I'm not sure how anyone can objectively say this ... particularly as hot as UH was at the end of the year.

I think people sometime overlook the fact that defense is as much of a phase of the game as hitting or pitching.

I will agree that our upside can make us dangerous if we play air tight defense (but we are now 55 games into the season).

RE: What are y'all thinking happens Monday?
It's always fun to look at the "Final Predictions" after the fact. Here's how D1Baseball and Baseball America did:

Correct national seeds: D1: 7/8; BA: 7/8. Both had A&M as a national seed instead of TCU.

Correct national seed order: D1: 1 (#8 Missouri St.); BA: 2 (#3 Louisville, #5 Miami).

Correct Super Regional Pairings: D1: 4; BA: 2.

Correct 2-3-4 seed & location: D1: 17/48; BA: 12/48.

Correct 2-3-4 location but not seed: D1: 1 (San Diego St.); BA: 2 (Ole Miss & Texas).

Perfect regional: D1: Houston; BA: None.

Correct assignments both agreed on:

Fla-FSU Super Regional pairing

CSU Bakersfield (4) @ UCLA
USC (3) @ Lake Elsinore
Oral Roberts (3) @ Stillwater
FIU (4) @Miami
Morehead St (4) @ Louisville
Lipscomb (4) @ Vanderbilt
HBU (4) @ Houston
Tulane (3) @LSU

Correct 2-seed assignments: D1: 2; BA: 3.

Correct 3-seed assignments: D1: 6; BA: 3.

Correct 4-seed assignments: D1: 9; BA: 6.

In/Out Misses: D1: 1 - Had N. Fla. in; Oregon out. BA: 3 - Had N. Fla, UNC & USM in; Bradley, Clemson, & Oregon out.

Let me know if I got any of these wrong ... but it looks like D1 did a bit better job predicting the tourney field.

Should be plenty of Rice sections, considering Houston's notoriously poor support for baseball.

RE: What are y'all thinking happens Monday?
The Rice allotment will be diminished somewhat because almost all of our player parents are located in or near Houston and the school makes tickets to them as a first priority. Add to that the configuration for the Regionals have the capacity for UH as an announced 3500 so unlike Regionals away the amount of tickets Rice will have to sell to season ticket holders and Owl Club member will be much less.

Yes. I corresponded with Shu (of the ticketoffice) on Saturday. He said an e-mail would be going out to Owl Club member some time on Monday, but that the allocation will be small.

Anything better than 2 and 'cue and I'll be pleasantly surprised.

This team's strengths and weaknesses just don't match up well with the profile needed to win in post-season.

And the team has been playing in a big-time funk since our UH melt down.

Just a couple of comments about the field:

CSF and UCSB got regionals, while UCI got left out completely. That is insane. The committee should be ashamed of itself, especially in case of UCSB. The Gauchos lost their final weekend series against UCR, who is absolutely atrocious.

If Rice is a 2-seed, then UCI is at worst a 3. I don't even think Rice could beat UCI in a three-game series. For the record.

IMO, Committee did the worst job they've done in 5+ years. The selection of UCSB to host 3 hours away from campus is beyond insanity, and is totally unprecedented. The list goes on and on and on. And when questioned about some of their decisions, Heeke gave babble talk with absolutely no explanation. No transparency whatsoever. Very disappointing. Several of those regionals are total cakewalks for the host, while a number of others are unnecessarily brutal.

I get the feeling that the NCAA made some sort of commitment on the Lake Elsinore bid, and then they couldn't back out of it when UCSB messed the bed against UCR. I also think that there was some LA push behind the Lake Elsinore site, because that improved the chances that teams from that area would stay there (e.g. USC).

UCSB did get a tough regional though; no way they get out of it. I may drive up to Lake Elsinore to back SDSU, because I have many friends there.

RE: What are y'all thinking happens Monday?
For all intensive purposes, Lake Elsinore is a neutral site regional. With the obvious exception of the pairings (e.g. UCSB gets to open against the #4), it's almost as if UCSB, USC, and even #4 seed SDSU are splitting as regional hosts (and I'd be shocked if USC and SDSU don't outdraw UCSB 3-1). You can get to Lake Elsinore from either LA or SD in a little over an hour (traffic permitting) - Santa Barbara is probably about 2 1/2 - 3 hours.

And, FWIW, the D1 baseball guys got 63 of 64 teams correct. I would agree with Walt that some of the seedings and pairings were a bit inconsistent (Bradley as a #2 comes to mind). Either heavily weight RPI or don't (preferably don't), but pick a side. And Louisville's path looks ridiculously light.

The Lake Elsinore owners have ties to UCSD. I'm almost wondering if they didn't make a financial commitment to buy what is pretty close to a home regional for UCSD.

UCI has an RPI of 47 and is not an automatic qualifier. Their exclusion is a no-brainer, for all intents and purposes.
