Much easier logistically to have us drive to College Station and fly the other 2 seeds into Houston and DFW.

??? Pretty short bus ride from IAH to College Station, no? Much shorter than any of those West Coast schools going to Lake Elsinore-- even those located in the LA area.

Does the committee get into minutia like that? I would think the first order would be competitive balance, the second butts in seats, travel convenience for the squads a lot farther down the list.

Hisstorically, competitive balance has NEVER been a consideration. Ever.

so what does it matter if a team is the weakest 2 or the strongest 2?

It really doesn't matter. It is just chatter. It would matter in basketball for example.

I just wish there was some consistency with the placing of teams. I'm fine with Rice coming to UH as a #2 seed, but in a similar situation last year, UH got shipped to Baton Rouge rather than staying home in its own bed. I think that somewhat diminishes home field advantage when the opponent doesn't have to travel.

For me I would like to see some variation in where Regionals winners are sent. It is all too easy to send a Houston Regional (either at Rice or UH) winner always to LSU. The travel limit thinking was in response to gas prices supposedly. Let's see the UH Regional winner sent to Champaign-Urbana or somewhere else. The committee tends to produce similar Super matchups all too often.

Given TAMU's AD is on the Committee, I just don't see us in College Station, even though the Aggies are projected to be the only Texas host as a national seed (and we'll be the weakest #2 seed in the field).

I know what the sips' RPI is but I have also followed their efforts to keep Augie in Austin and I gotta say, they would be an incredibly dangerous 4 seed -- Parker French is not who you want to be facing on the mound in a 1 v. 4 game -- DBU should be righteously peeved if that happens to them (and I speak well of the yellow bellies despite hating them as much as anyone here -- I have had to live with them since '74

You mean like 2013 where the Oregon Regional was paired with the NC State Regional?

Agreed. I really think the committee oughta do a better job of seeding teams beyond just the top eight. Are travel costs really that prohibitive?

Seems like a reasonable (and very safe selection process) with UH, Rice, ULL and HBU. I hope we're ready to play and get hot for a change.

Should be good crowds too. I missed which regional this one is paired up with?

Agreed. Seminal moment here for this baseball team, at least in the last few years.

Feels like close to best case for regional draw and close to worst for making Omaha.

Also feels like a tough draw Omaha draw for UH.

Real man-bites-dog stuff with Ben McDonald picking LSU.

Worst part of this time of the year is that he reappears in my life for a few days.
