Our AD did open up a section or 2 for non-FSL season ticket purchases just before the season started each year but those totalled only a few hundred.

Charlotte is in a difficult situation. You guys will emerge from it all and be okay, but a lot of cash had to be raised and fast. You didn't have the luxury of an old usable stadium such as ODU had to get your program established. The moves made have been the right ones, as frustrating as it must be. I do agree that soon a few changes are going to be necessary to keep the interest moving in the right direction. First and foremost, get rid of those noon games especially in the month of September.

Charlotte needs to expand the stadium, or at least bring in temporary seating for big games....such as the Marshall game this year.

I will be there, I already bought my tickets through Marshall because I am a Big Green member. But Charlotte is going to miss out on a lot of ticket sales, just because they do not have the seating.

I'm pretty sure Judy (our AD) is hoping a lot of visiting team fans get pissed off they can't get in. She pretty much said that she'll use that as justification for expansion once you guys prove you want in.

My personal opinion is that you should sell tickets no matter how many show up. You're stadium is perfect for standing room only tickets. You're students leave those endzone seats and go stand at the top anyway. Knowing your stadium as well as I do, neither should you limit the student tickets to 4500 nor should you allot any more seats. The kids are there, they just don't sit. Surely you don't give them tickets with seat assignments on them do you?
General admission. Students are only guaranteed 4500 seats, but if there are SRO spots available (we can accommodate approximately 1300 SRO), students can get more than their 4500 number.

Even though we could probably accommodate a lot more people with SRO, the bathroom facilities are not sufficient for more than 16,600.

You're now an FBS football team. That should be all the justification needed to at least get to 24K.

4-32 in our last 36 games, still have more season ticket holders than anyone else.

RE: Season ticket sales for last 3 seasons - C-USA schools
Now, you all have me wondering if these numbers are even remotely on par.

I had always been told that our season tickets sales swung between 8K to 10K depending on the schedule and perceived strength of the team going in, but our attendance has been trending down so much in recent years (as I described in detail a couple of months ago) that it made me think perhaps it is accurate. But now I question the validity given some of the new evidence that has been conveyed.

Aren't all of these documents subject to FOIA requests? I know that our beat writer gets it every year after the season and the numbers in the report for FIU agree. Go Panthers.

Impressive. My only concern would be how many of these are old timers vs new sales. If your fan base is aging and not enough new season ticket buyers are coming along, you could be in trouble long term.

Our trend down has more to do with 4-32 then an aging fan base. Our eagle club and season ticket holders have seen a big up swing in young contributors since we started the student eagle club and offered new graduate season tickets the last 4 years. Just a lot of folks quit buying when the team started losing in such horrible ways. As we improve, the numbers will come back up and the younger fans produced by the programs above will ensure continued success. At least that's the plan :-)

That's really not uncommon. If a school (like Marshall) knows it's got a big ticket school (Like W Virginia) coming to town that will likely sell out, they'll often require game ticket buyers (including Mountaineers fans) to buy an entire season ticket package just to get the game ticket.

We did this with our MBB team this year. Our first game was against UVA. Lots of UVA people bought our season tickets and then placed the remainder of the package for sale at a much reduced rate.

I think we will be back up around 14K for 2015.

We were trending up every season except last year...Not sure why, I had thought CUSA would help us but apparently did not...I know a lot of people at WKU are mad with WKU jacking up tailgating prices big time, have heard a lot of people have dropped season tickets because of this...May be trending down for awhile....

WKU charges people to tailgate? Or do they charge for a prime spot in the parking lot?

They charge for spots on campus to pull in and tailgate..I really think this is driving a lot of fans off of WKU football....We have had some issues with this and now they have doubled the price from $150 to $300 this season on my friends spot..he is not happy and have heard from other because of this, they are dropping their season tickets...Tailgating has been a mess for WKU since being FBS..

Is there no where else in BG to tailgate?

I pay like $10-$20 for a spot within 1 block of the stadium here in Huntington.

Then again, we have good community support and for a few block radius around the stadium it is tailgate parties everywhere.

there's 100s of free tailgating spots with in .2 of a mile (closer than a city block) at Western. I think it's being over stated when he said..LOTS of people are giving up season tickets because of tailgating prices going up.

I don't know about you but I consider "a lot" more than the 2 or 3 this guys talking about. Also what football fan gives up season tickets over a tailgate spot? Not much of a fan...wouldn't you agree?

Attendance at Western is affected by a few things...

1. less than 20 years ago Western was one vote away from being where UAB is at today. Western kept the football program but funding was call to next to nothing for 5 or more years...

It was so bad Jim Harbaugh took up a collect of cleats from his teammates for players to wear.

2. Western is less than 3 hours away from 2 of the top 5 to 8 basketball programs of all time and KY is a basketball state.

3. Western is with in 3 hours of 2 SEC and 1 ACC football programs and no matter how bad 2 out of the 3 are...it's still SEC and hard to overcome that SEC tag

Only been FBS for 7 years with a 25 game losing streak before wining 7 or more games in the last 4 seasons. From looking at that list Western is doing better than a lot of CUSA schools in season ticket sold that's been doing it a lot longer

RE: Season ticket sales for last 3 seasons - C-USA schools
More than 2 or 3, have heard several dropping tickets due to this increase out of the blue for tailgating spots...Where are the other tailgating spots not on campus? Maybe across the tracks? Doesn't seem like a good party to me being over there tailgating....

I am saying its an issue and has been since President made a horrible decision when it rained one game and he proclaimed no more tailgating on the grass...People have still not gotten over that, that caused a lot of issues...Tailgating bottom line needs to be better and not sticking people an extra $150 tab for no reason at all...It does drive people away when they will just now go buy single tickets here and there to the games they want to go to.....

WE need to at least keep the few fans we have that are there ever game and not do stupid stuff that runs them away....

When I read this, it makes me wonder why so many of you come down on Charlotte so hard.

If you want to park in a lot near our stadium where you can tailgate, you're looking at $500+ donation on top of the parking fees just to be able to park there.

I seriously don't think its possible for charlotte to struggle as much as we did first couple of seasons...

However if you do, WKU Proves you can turn it around and turn it around quickly...WKU has really turned it on since that disaster of a start...

I will say though, this upcoming season it is time for WKU to take the next step in FBS....

Personally, I think you guys win CUSA this season.

I also think your stadium should be a model for what we should aim for. Small, but nice--and bigger looking than it actually is.

I wasn't specifically speaking about WKU, but there have been plenty others trying to compare Charlotte to GA State and frankly, there is no comparison. They have some financial hurdles to rightsize but they will be a good partner over the long haul.

Because it is the easy thing do. A lot of fans here were merely grandfathered into their programs, we created ours.
