What is the upside for the other schools here? UMass was desperate but it seemed like each school involved bent over backwards to help. Did they all work that close to add an easy win for Bowl purposes? Shocking they all end up playing in Mass, with State giving up a 7th home game. Where is the bennefit?

Miss State gets two home games for one away game. I do know that in order for UMASS to stay FBS they have to have so many home games.

What is interesting is that according to Advocate writer Scott Kushner's tweet Tulane, UMASS, and Miss State had collaborated together on the scheduling.

Tulane lost a home game with Miss State by design. Earlier they re-negotiated their old contract with Ole Miss which added an SEC home game. It looks like Tulane attempted to do the same thing with an even older contract with Miss State. The payday for Tulane playing at Miss State was only 200k. Tulane tried to get State to add a home game due to the payout which was way below the market value for such a contest. State declined to do it but offered to play a home game if Tulane added another away game to it. Tulane declined. When Tulane set a 1 for 2 with OK, it gave Tulane a payday in 2017 of $1.2 million plus a home and away game with OK later down the road. Tulane then cancelled the State away game and worked with UMASS to set up the three way deal. The result was a home and home with UMASS for Tulane and Miss state got a 2-1 with UMASS.

Overall Tulane added 3 home games and 3 away games in the space of about a month while losing one away game.

Home:
Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Umass.

Away:
Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Umass.

Looks to me like your AD wasn't as big a numbskull as some of you were making him/her out at the beginning of this announcement.

UMass vs Miss State? Those who are squeamish at the sight of blood had best not attend those games.

1.5M body bag game vs beatable Miss State game. In the long term wins over SEC teams will do more for a already small Tulane fanbase

Tulane needs to aggressively add middle of the pack SEC and any BIG XII.

Tulane is a lock for Big XII.

If you read the UMass boards, that is exactly what they are trying to do. They actually apparently were expecting an AAC invite announcement the other day when a press conference was scheduled, but it turned out to be the announcement of the Miss State 2-1.

I think it is very clear that the AAC is UMass's end game, and, also, it is very clear that Aresco and Co. turned them down, because if they hadn't, they'd be in the conference by now.
It would make no sense to add us now for all sports, olympic sports for 2017 would be debateable. Assume the number 1 goal for the AAC is to pass the MWC in rankings. We need to prove it on the field and keep improving the infrastructure. So the AAC and us will take care of business and we will continue to be in the conversation.

#1, you guys need to get out of Gillette and dominate Amherst before Boston. UMass is a good fit, even with poor football, but it's the facilities and program investment that is keeping you out. That, and a viable #14 partner.

There's nobody in Amherst but college students and hippies. UMASS easily "dominates" Amherst

The population of Western Massachusetts as a whole is questionable as a media market. The largest city is Springfield (135K), which has a demographic that is a majority hispanic (Puerto Rican). Good for boxing!

Most of Worcester and the surrounding area ae UMASS fans. There's no real competition except Boston College which your average Massachussian despises
