There are other ways to achieve that important goal. We don't have to play LSU in football (or frankly, anything) in order to do that.

Heh. That would be so Tulane.

Dickson is not smart enough to get a "big fish."
For us Miss State is a HUGE FISH.
Just another incompetent act by our incompetent AD.
He'll likely schedule U Mass instead. Fire Dickson now, he is a continuing disaster bent on destroying Tulane.

Bamford confirmed that Tulane is a potential opponent, but finalizing that game wasn’t imminent.

Rice already has a full schedule in 2016 (at Stanford, at Army, Baylor, Prairie View), although I have worried that Baylor might buy out of what is the last game of a 2 and 2 agreement.
It would make sense for the Owls to play at Tulane in 2017, when we already have two home games (Stanford and Army) plus the Bayou Bucket. If the Wave returned to Houston in 2018, it would also complete that schedule (at Wake Forest, at Hawaii, and the Bayou Bucket already on the schedule).

That only makes sense if Mississippi State agreed to move the game back a year so we could get Rice in, but they wouldn't budge further. So we'd rather Oklahoma than them in 2017, thus the cancellation.
However, the suggestion was there is a series working itself out, so one and done with Rice and OU makes no sense. I feel like no matter what the final word is, it's not going to be easy for us to pick out how it all shook out...

We all agree Dickson must go but President Fitts and Board will not retire him.

I'm more worried about the lack of change at OC than I am about the schedule. A good OC will steal a P5 game here and there.
I don't mind Rice on the schedule. It's a good opponent for us, and our last game was a tense 3-point affair.
I like State, and I want to see them back on the schedule soon.

Tulane fans have been saying this for at least 5 years.
I think RD wanted to supervise, specifically, the post-Katrina recovery, the construction of an OCS for football, and the transition to a new conference. Check, check, and check. Dickson is now 59 years old and has been our Athletic Director for more than 15 years. I question what else he thinks he could accomplish at Tulane that he hasn't accomplished already. And he must know that President Fitts would like to put his own stamp on the department.

So . . . our replacement for @ MSU in 2016 is @ UMass in 2016, with a home game with UMass in 2022. As is generally the case with our Athletic Department, there is no reasoning given to the average Tulane fan for this seemingly unequal swap. We are left on our own to conjure up a rationalization. Request from the AAC? Somebody at Tulane knows somebody at UMass? . . . .

A Southern Miss series would have made more sense.
Anyways, I think Dickson tried to replace a likely loss with a likely win now that Oklahoma is going to be on future schedules.
Tulane played a hard nonconference slate last season and went 1-3. That's not going to bring a bowl game nor is it going to save anyone's job.

Here's the bright side:
Tulane won't lose by 28 to UMass - in fact, they might be favored to win. Blowout losses are worse than scrappy wins against other bad teams when it comes to the perception of the AAC.

They now have Tulane and UConn at Gillette in 2016. Could be an audition of sorts. Rumor on their board is that they are trying to get one of the FL AAC schools on the schedule for 2016 as well.

I am sure they thought duke and Georgia tech were winnable games when they scheduled them but they caught them at the wrong time. I agree about Southern Miss. The should go 2 G5's that they have history with and the 1 good P5 and 1 lower P5. That at least is what I would do to try and at least come out at 2-2 most seasons at a minimum.
