This board essentially remains what it's been for a while - the vicarious ***** measuring board.

Now that the Big 12 can get their conference championship game (there certainly can be a debate of the value of that for another thread) and all the P5s have pretty nice contracts but are locked in financially, there's really no need to expand. It's that simple. I can read how Cincy/BYU/UConn/USF-UCF/Memphis are going to join league X forever... but there's no reason for the leagues to change. My "inside" information is that nothing is going to change for awhile... cord-cutting... a rise in the value of sport X vs. sport Y... NCAA forcing something... those are the only reasons things would change.

Actually, the big 12 cant get their conference championship game. If you are solely a follower of propaganda then there was a point where you could say it is likely that they are going to get it but now....now you cant even make that argument because all of the propaganda has switched and countered anything that ole Bowlsby was trying to sell us.

I like you CP but perhaps your sense of smell is slipping away from you. As for me? I definitely smell blood in the water.

Okay H1, what kind of shark are you: a Mako, a Tiger, a Thresher, a Hammerhead, a Bull, or a Great White?

I don't know, just going by how they all look, I would have to go with a Bull(****) shark.

RE: THINGS ARE SLOW, PAINFULLY SLOW, WHY???
IMO, the reason things are "slow" among the P5 is because we've entered a long period of stability, which was to be expected following the turbulence of the 2010-2012 time frame, because this is a common phenomena across nature. In many natural systems we see that there is a pattern in which a system of some kind maintains overall stability until destabilizing pressures - from inside or outside the system - build to a point where the system cannot maintain itself in present form, and a shock-change occurs as the system accomodates itself to these pressures. This systemic change relives that pressure and establishes a new equilibrium.

E.g., most geologic volcanoes and earthquake zones exhibit a similar pattern: A long quiet time where nothing happens on the surface but pressure is slowly building, punctuated by short periods of violent eruptions and aftershocks, after which, the earth's crust or whatever having changed such that this pressure is relieved, we have a long period of quiet under a new equilibrium, until new pressures emerge and build to the critical point yet again.

In the late 2000s, we had the realization that college football had much greater earning potential than was being realized in the media market. This realization that media rights-fees were swinging dramatically upward resulted in the raids by the various Power conferences against each other in order to create new membership rosters that would capitalize on the greatly expanded earning potential. Likewise, the terminus of the BCS contract also contributed instability, as the conferences realized that a new system could also generate much more income. Thus the turbulence of the 2010-2012 time frame.

But now that those forces have been accounted for and pressure relieved- media money is now locked in via long contracts that take into account the greater value, and the new playoff system has been finalized - we have reached a new stability zone.

Given this pattern, I don't expect P5 membership to change at all over the next 5 years, at a minimum. If I had to bet, I'd place money that P5 school and conference membership in 2020 will be exactly what it is right now.
