OK.. well it seems the city and alumni/donors brought it back. Now they have to put them into actions.

Someone stated that this is probably the best thing to happen for UAB, as it has lit a fire under the city and donors to be more active in their support so something like this won't happen again. I tend to agree.

BREAKING: #UAB president: University reverses decision to drop football, will bring program back in 2016.

Wow... All sorts of heads need to roll for the complete WASTE of money here. The cost of re-instating a program that was terminated has to be at least 4X more than if they had either (a) kept the program in the first place or (b) kept it terminated. Glad the State and University have that type of funds to throw around...and I hope they don't raise tuition in the next decade.

Take it out of Saban's pay. Lol.04-rock04-bow04-cheers

UAB to bring back football
Only 6 months after president Ray Watts announced that football would be terminated, the school has decided to reinstate the program, according to ESPN's Alex Scarborough and multiple reports. UAB officials have scheduled a 5 p.m. ET news conference.

Interesting. He's basically admitting he and his AD didn't even consider the conference issue when he cut football. In other words, he made a decision without considering factors any of us amateurs on this board would have considered. So he and his AD are unfit to be in their positions.

The current AD was hired two weeks ago. The previous AD resigned when told the decision had been made.

Ray Watts is simply unfit. Period.

I agree. Its going to be hard to be anything but the worst program in CUSA unless they make a major commitment like a stadium. It was probably best at this point to just let it go.

How do you recruit against-well they dropped football just a few years ago?

So, other than the banner 6-6 season from last year, they'll be the status quo as before. Probably, won't make a difference regardless.

Sorry, no CUSA for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends on which campus gets the credit and the grants in that scenario. Because UAH and UAB being well respected schools in their own right does no favors for UAT. And that is the real issue IMO, quickly raising the credibility for the main campus.

Not to re-hash old conversations, but was the timing of the decision to drop football right after UAB seemed to be improving, just a little coincidence? I mean, why did they do that this year? Maybe they got what they wanted, they kept UAB struggling. I don't know.

The articles posted on this board indicates the decision was made before the season started, but they were worried about strikes and such things if they announced during or before the season.

Yep, it was clear that the decision to drop football was made prior to the beginning of the 2014 season. A PR firm was hired to relay the strategy and gave advice that if the announcement was made at the beginning of the season, there would be a huge backlash. Watts and the PR firm had hoped that nobody would care enough to protest if it were done at the end of the season.

The question I have- if UAB had gone 2-10 or 1-11 this year- would there have been this huge backlash? Or did this year going 6-6 kind of make the backlash even bigger.

I think this issue hurts the Alabama at T. image more, and could hurt their image more if they to block any sports at UAB and UAH.

One article I read was that they wanted to kill all sports at UAB since 2004-2005 time period. It was more like getting them lose all NCAA status.

first I would like to say I was wrong. I never believed uab football would be back.

however the bigger question is will they go back to 2-10 and if so will all the new found support disappear.
I say yes but ive been wrong before.

As bad as it sounds, UAB will not have to fall very far. This road will be even tougher going forward and I really hope the people that were outraged by this put their money where their mouths are or this has been all for not.

Another way to stick it to the BoTs at UAT is by inviting them into the ACC. Watch Bear JR blow his fuse? COGS

Paul Jr. is old and sick. I doubt he'd care as long as the ACC paid for renovations on Legion Field and dealt with the city corruption in Birmingham.
