It's unlikely that NBC is going to be compeitive financially and we already have a relationship set up with a national network (be it OTA) that's not likely to provide monetary support to the contract in ASN.

Realistically, I'm fairly convinced from what I've heard that we will be resigning with Fox. ESPN is full on content. CBS has already disengaged with the league and the NBC issue as mentioned above is where it is. It's not to say we couldn't have some games on NBC, but it's not likely to provide a financial benefit; therefore, we will be retaining Fox who is the only one left that can provide both the financial incentives, the windows of opportunity for national broadcasts and a regional network portfolio. Technically, we could have earned more per team than we are getting now if the compeition had manifested itself as expected, but with the other networks either filling up or unwilling to add additional CFB content unfortunately there is very little competition for Fox to bid against. Since they know that, we can very much expect not to have any increase financially or in the number of televised games and we will have a similar deal to what we have now.

If what you are saying is true, and I have no evidence it isn't, then CUSA will remain getting around 1 million per school. That puts us Behind the AAC, MWC, just ahead of the MAC and still miles above the Sun Belt. Honestly, that sounds about right.

I really don't have a big issue with the $$$. It would be nice to have better exposure since there seems to be room on whatever network the conference signs with (minus ESPN). Is there any reason why CUSA can't see a bump in exposure? This exposure question is more pertinent to basketball. I thought the football exposure was solid last season and this is from someone who lives outside the footprint.

If we stay around $1 million/yr, we will probably have to sign an 8-10 year contract like the MAC did.

I don't think NBC is out of the picture. Remember they made a heavy play for The American but ESPN matched. They also have FCS football and A10 basketball. Knowing this, it looks like they want content but have had to settle for FCS football and A10 basketball.

Something like that. I would expect 6 to 8.

I'm surprised some of these networks are signing P5 conferences to 20 year deals with that type of money at stake given the uncertainty of the future of streaming content.

But hasn't it been well written NBC is interested in either top level or bargain/dirt cheap content? So, they bid on Notre Dame, the B1G and the Olympics otherwise they offer peanuts. That is why they have FCS football. Those schools/conferences are just happy for the exposure. Maybe that explanation is too simplistic.

NBC wouldn't have to offer a huge amount. They could pick up a limited number of games and throw a few peanuts on top of the pile. If you're only making $850,000 per team then every little bit adds up.

Precisely, and let's remember that the NBC offer was a huge reduction based on that league's previous deal when it was known as the Big East at $20M per year. And NBC just tossed it out there knowing full well that at a minimum it was likely to be matched by ESPN which it was only to have ESPN then sub license the agreement to CBSSN. NBC did not make a serious play at the AAC. They threw a low ball thinking if they got it great if not no big deal.

So, in essence similar to what CBS & Fox did for the current contract just substitute NBC for CBS.

The basketball coverage could really improve and I would be fine with any amount as long as the games were shown somewhere.

Basketball goals should be somehow overtaking the OVC in basketball coverage...Flat out embarrassing the OVC gets more hoops coverage then we do..I don't care if we have to play Monday nights, do whatever it takes to get more bball games on National TV or at least Regional TV....

Exactly. We don't need NBC for the money, FOX or ESPN can get us that part for our tier 1. NBC can just help with our exposure and not have to put up a lot of money.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, if what you are saying is accurate, with CBS disengaged and Fox paying what they pay now, that's 7-8 million total media income for CUSA. There would be no longer be a CBS-Sports contract doubling the CUSA Fox income. That's means CUSA media income falls to about .5 million per school. In order to stay at 1 million per team, Fox needs to double their content buy (picking up the current CBS-Sports package), or double the price they pay for their current content package, or another network (NBC-Sports, ESPN, etc) would need to pick up the 7 million dollar slack that exists when CBS-Sports steps away (assuming that occurs as you suggest).

Correct though with one caveat. Fox already picked up additional content from CBS this past year without having to pay for it (or what they paid CBS for the rights was miniscule). And yes they kind of did us a favor, so we have a good relationship and rapport with Fox. There's no way I see us attempting to take our Tier 1 rights to open market. We will resign with Fox.

So, what we will see is a small but not insiginificant uptick in games broadcast and monetary value committed by Fox as a result of being the clear Tier 1 provider for C-USA. And then we'll have a much smaller financial committment made by one of the other networks that represents the Tier 2 package. Instead of 50/50 it's 80/20 or 70/30. Probably ASN, but that remains to be seen. NBC could certainly come in with a very small offer to broadcast a game or two per week.

Cumulatively, it should be in the same numerical value as we are currently receiving.

Sounds reasonable. I still could see NBC being a darkhorse bidder. With no FBS football other than Notre Dame, I think CUSA would be a great property for NBC-Sports to obtain.

At the end of the day, NBC could get FBS football and not have to pay out the ying yang for it.

If I could just get it to where I can stream all away games to my tv, I would be happy. CUSA TV would be great.

I would love to see us start our own online channel for games not picked up. I would seriously purchase this if they had it.

Maybe stream it through Roku as well.

I'm with you guys, I just want to be able to watch the game somehow.

Sad I can watch all of my favorite D2 school's (West Liberty) games online, but struggle to find some of the Marshall games.

I'd be fine with getting the same amount of money as long as it meant more exposure, especially in basketball.

Conference presidents meet June 8th and if it hasn't been decided before that, it will very likely be announced that week.
