This field really drained well and grew really nice grass until it was uncrowned and recrowned a few times. There is a small movement to keep the Tift Bermuda, I'd be willing to donate just a little more to keep it natural grass (and maybe a little more if they returned the original "crown").

Hope you are right.

They say the coaches want it. ? I guess they do.

They say the players want it? I question that one.

Fans want it? "I don't think so Tim!"

RE: Ga Southern switching to artificial turf
Another thing on the cost of this.

Though I hate turf, they say it is really good now and they have made so much improvement on it. So, I say then there is even more reason to wait and see how much even better it becomes a few years from now.

If this stuff is going to take several years to pay for itself, I'd rather not shell out the extra cash right now. I think we've got enough extra expenses right now to focus on like COA, keeping coaches etc. I don't think we are going to see a coach leave because he wants to coach on turf. But they will leave is somebody offers them more $.

Put it off, even if it becomes inevitable at some point. The product will be better, we can be better prepared to pay for it and in the mean time we preserve something that few other's still have.. Natural Grass!

Maybe Snoop Dog can promote it for us?Rimshot

I don't really study up on that sort of thing but I find that hard to believe. Even the California teams have turf? Are you only counting OCS?

I talking G5 teams. Looks like I missed UConn, at the time of the article they were "BCS".

Since then NMSU has gone turf and all new FBS teams have turf.

That is a staggering fact to me, but it only includes OCS. SDSU, for example, plays at Qualcomm on natural grass.

This!!!!! I would love to be the only team to still play on natural grass and arrive to the stadium on Old Yellow school buses.

Yeah man, I give you +1 about 50 million times for that. "Progress" sometimes really, really sucks.

I agree. I lost my great 50 yard line seats due to the deck being built. My seats no longer exist due to the walkway spanning those stands. They literally were a pile of rubble after the last home game of 2013. I don't even have a chance to sit in the same section because that's now all student seating.

But I moved into the deck, and found out the football is still just as awesome from up there.

I love that we have grass now, but having turf won't make me hate our team either.

You can thank Jerry Moore for the lack of Black endzones. He designed the Appalachian State that is in the endzones and designed the new turf to include it. Guess he wanted to leave his mark on the stadium.

I second the notion this is a win in the App State column.

Actually I heard one of the main reasons of getting rid of grass is to keep the Appsters goats/spouses off the field when they visit town.

I think it was a poor decision to not color the endzones. I bet when the new facility is built we'll get new turf and colored endzones again.

We got maroon and they're tending towards pink also. Especially noticeable when new sections are added.

He also wanted the script "Mountaineers" on the sideline in the gold but when the turf monkeys started to install it, they realized how stupid it was and abandoned it.

At least we got a Block A at midfield.

I don't think it was a poor decision at all. It looked awful when we had pink end zones and I don't believe the administration has any intention of allowing that to happen again. I also don't believe we will get new turf when the new facility is built. We've only used that turf for two seasons. The last turf we used for I believe 10 years before it needed to be replaced. It would be a waste of money to put in new turf again so soon considering they are tentatively planning to break ground at the end of this season and be finished with it in 1.5 years.

I still prefer natural grass and the field at GaSo always appeared to be in great condition. At least the new field turf is a far cry from the old astro turf App had for so many years. That old field was rock hard and had the "biggest curve" from the middle to the sidelines I've ever seen. A QB in the middle of the field was throwing to a receiver 5 yards lower on a simple down and out. This is one time I hope the traditionalist win at GaSo and keep the real grass.

Yup. I remember standing on one sideline and looking across the field and not being able to see the guys on the other sideline from the waist down. It was probably the most prounounced crown I'd ever seen on a field.
