Nice try.
But while our teams have fallen short of elite...unfortunately...they have not been close to mediocre, save the possible exception of last season...which will look like a simple outlier after next season.
Not has anyone argued they are perfectly satisfied, even with the prior years before last year which were good, often very good, but short of elite. Some simply do not act as denigrating and mocking as others feel compelled to constantly do.
Gets some high fives, but is simply tripe.
You always seem to look only at overall wins and losses. You don't seem to judge the state of our program holistically at all.
On a scale of 1 to 10, where do you think the Memphis brand rates in the eyes of national recruits each year from 2010 to present. It is falling.
The Lawsons are now outliers in terms of recruits we can expect under Pastner. Outside of that, we are getting 2*s and transfers. Competitors know and use his NCAA and top 25 results against him, as well as his transfer rate. His cheesy persona is perfectly fine if he's winning, but becomes another tool to use because he rarely wins GAMES THAT MATTER.
The program as a whole is in its worst state since Ive been following every game since 1981 (just because that is the first season my father took me to every game at the MSC). The reason is that in Finch's bad years, we were pre Big 5 conference. We were in a power conference even though they weren't called that at that time. In 2005 when Cal had his bad year, we still had a great program salesman who, despite his below par results, still was a great motivator and recruiter and we knew that top recruits were coming in future years. Pastner is not a good motivator. We are unlikely to have great recruits coming in the future. We are viewed separately from teams in power conferences. Since todays top recruits were in the 6th/7th grade, we have won 5 or less games that have any real significance.

The problem is this, name one thing that Pastner does well as a floor coach? Do any of his teams have an identity? How is he with in game adjustments? How is he with shuffling personnel? Yadda yadda yadda...argue all you want and none of it matters because these issues and others are the killers that will cost him his job here.

He's good at recalling a player from the scores table when the guy he's going in to replace makes a shot. I've seen him do this successfully several times each game.

Nice try about what?
This is my opinion and the way I see it the direction of the program is not good. The problems we have now have snowballed into so many that I don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel no matter who is running the show.
Your elite reference must be satire because show/post a link/or whatever that we’ve had any glimpse of being elite or being a challenge for any elite team in the current era. Good teams blow us out so what do you think an elite team would do to us? In 6 years we have yet to get to the second weekend at the Dance.
You’re OK with me Mimi but we are also totally different animals. You wish to praise, I want to do something special.

No.
Made a simple comment about your opinion that our team was MEDIOCRE.
Last year- yes.
Prior years...no.
Which in no way outside of Internet world means satisfied, not disappointing, wanting to get to ELITE level- as our teams have fallen short. Only in Internet universe does that recognition get twisted into not wanting to do something special. Tired. Weak effort.
Wallow away- many do. But when you make a nice try in slipping in- on a Memphis message board, that our teams have been MEDIOCRE- it gets caught.
The decision is not between praising and doing something special.
Some indeed prefer to avoid BASHING, and have always wanted to do something special. AND recognize shortcomings- without the petty incessant never ending mocking or somewhat off base ideas that outside of last season, our teams have been mediocre. Overkill on that one. More nuance would improve your point.
My OPINION- which I gather from here basically allows anything nor should be disagreed with.

I am in the neutral corner about Pastner, I still think we should keep him. BUT, I heard Scott Brooks is looking for a job. So, for all you Fire Pastner people, there is one person that is in the market for a HC job.
