RE: Sun Belt releases 2015-16 basketball schedule, royally screws App State
To be more accurate, I think App State got the short end of the stick from the beginning, with the conference football schedule being one of the toughest out of the gate.

1. APP FANS---Shut up. Don't come crying and then be sanctimonious about no one gets screwed but you. Here are some facts:
When this was pretty much a two team basketball league (UL and WKU), the Cajuns, because the SBC kept re-doing the schedule, had to travel to WKU six times in nine years. And, we were only playing them once per season. Don't put your foot in your mouth by suggesting the Cajuns haven't been screwed because of scheduling.
And, there were FIVE GAMES IN A ROW last year when UL was playing a team coming off a bye. No other school had to go through that.
It is unfortunate it works out this way? yes. Would it be remedied with 12 teams instead of eleven? Yes.
But doing the schedule they way they did it last year, cost most schools an extra 60-80K in travel expenses for their men and women.
Here's the good news for App. You never have to play more than two in a row on the road or two in a row at home. It's as balanced as a schedule can be.
Did you see the Louisiana schools' schedules? UL plays App at home then on the road for four. Then they are home for seven out of eight and then have another four game road swing.
You got favorable treatment with the home/road thing. So, like I said, shut up.
DOUBLEHEADERS---It was voted to play the women Sat/Mon and the women's coaches went to the AD's and complained about the girls always having to use Sunday as a travel day. The AD's reconsidered and decided to keep the DH.
TWENTY GAME SCHEDULE--was a close vote. The argument was two fold for 20. 1) If you aren't going to bring all the teams to the conference tournament then everyone should play an equal schedule.
2) There is an auto bid for the regular season champion to the NIT if they don't win the tournament. Again, equality in scheduling.
There has been ALL KINDS of moaning and complaining about GS not having to play UL or ASU in football on the way to their championship. The same argument would be all over this board if basketball scheduling was unequal and the second place team had to play the third place team twice while the first place team got to play the last place team twice.
I'm not a proponent of the 20 game schedule, but the arguments for it have plenty of merit.
Oh, did I say for App fans to shut up?
Shut up. Yes, you're paired with bye. But you don't have any extended road swings.
Damn it BOP, don't let facts get in the way of a uninformed pissing and moaning session! It seems some App State fans don't want to put on their big boy pants to play in the SBC. As you stated, no one gave UL a pass last season or in the past. But what the heck, we don't want NMST as a full member right?

Hey Jay, your opinion doesn't mean crap to us App fans. You were against App joining the league in the first place. Not to mention you whined about GaSo's football title to the Arky State media last week.
You and the other Cajuns fans keep going "waaahhh, we had to play FIVE games against teams coming off a bye, waahhhh!" like you weren't the only ones "screwed by it.
Here's a list of how many times each Sun Belt school played a team who had a BYE while they didn't last year.
Arkansas State 4
App State 0
Georgia State 1
Georgia Southern 3
Troy 0
South Alabama 1
UALR 1
UL-Lafayette 4 (South Alabama played NJIT on Sunday before playing UL-Lafayette on Thursday)
UL-Monroe 2
Texas State 4
UT-Arlington 0
And here's 2015-16
Arkansas State 3
App State 10
Georgia State 0

South Alabama 0
UALR 1
UL-Lafayette 0
UL-Monroe 3
Texas State 0
UT-Arlington 1

Besides his telling you and other whining App St fans to shut up, and your obvious problems with his age, what do you have to prove his post is skewered junior? First, UL had 5 weeks facing teams coming off of byes, not four. Since you weren't part of the conference until last year, you don't have a clue dude!
There is his half-truths and there is your post without any historical context. He is right in stating that App State does not have to travel more then two roads between home dates. Sorry, but that isn't close to what we have endured. Put on your big boy pants and play the schedule like everyone else. I'm sorry you wet yourself over this schedule.

You can find another league if you want those two in the same league as you.
I can't speak for UNO (just thought they made good regional sense), but you might want to do your homework before being too smug. Winthrop has enjoyed more success in basketball than Ark State - 9 NCAA trips to 1 (when your boys got whipped by 30) - and more trips to the NCAA baseball tournament. They've got a nice arena and their baseball & softball stadiums, track and field complex and soccer stadium blows the facilities in Jonesboro away.
And they would not be able to support football in the SBC, meaning an add would be non football.
There is no way you would convince the Western Football schools to sign off on ANOTHER non football member. It won't matter how halfway decent their basketball and baseball programs are...this is a football league.
Considering the SBC basically kicked UNO out. We're not bringing them back.
The thread is about App not having a decent travel partner for basketball and the olympic sports. You say the SB is a "football league", but in order to live up to that title we have members 2500 miles apart. Travel for olympic sports is bleeding the membership dry. With deregulation we no longer need 12 football members. Adding a few more non football schools and having two divisions is the best option for cutting costs.
Here they go again crying about the cost of travel at the FBS level. I'm sorry, prior to accepting your invite to this conference, Did you not get the memo that FBS Athletics would cost more?
And whom, specifically is . . . as you put it . . . being bled dry by travel costs?
And Hell No to any more non-football members . . .
This ain't FCS . . . Step UP or step BACK . . . . But for GAWD'S sake, stop the crying about travel cost . . . .

You can take the school out of the SOCON, but you can't take the SOCON out of the school.
Small time complaining about travel costs is so retro SOCON cool right now, hipsters might actually join you.
Hard to believe that I remember reading posts from App fans about how they were thankful to be SunBelt and had ultimate faith in Krazy Karl and his KarlBot 2000's Gag Reflex Automated Randomizer Scheduling Software version 2.0!?

App was well aware of the added costs, we were also told we would have a travel partner and additional revenue, like those from a championship game, to offset those costs. However, I fail to see how exploring possible solutions to financial issues faced by everyone in this league is "pissin' and moanin' like a little girl". Make a call to your AD and ask if he isn't at all concerned with paying for these long road trips and the time away from class these kids endure.

It has nothing to do with SoCon mentality and everything to do with finding solutions to obvious problems. We are happy to be in the SB, but that doens't mean you simply accept the status quo.

TWENTY GAME SCHEDULE--was a close vote....
It actually was not. Only App and Louisiana were in favor of reducing the number of the games to either 16 or 18. No other school was on board.

I love all of these schools who have travel partners and other schools much closer telling us to shut up about issues we face due to being on an island. As pointed out before, we knew cost would go up as well as travel, but we also thought the conference would have 12 members including another eastern member. Adding NMSU as a full member still only masks the problem and it throws the east/west balance off.
We are happy to be here and out of the SoCon, and we are completely aware of the differences between FBS and FCS. That doesn't mean some things cant be better. Cajun fans complain about this league more than anyone yet they don't want to listen to complaints by another school. Makes sense...

Maybe Krazy Karl decided to show App who's boss, to prevent them from questioning the supreme leader.
Krazy Karl just schooled Appy!
On second thought, I don't think spends that much thought and time on the conference. He puts his energy toward his golf game and finding a job for his daughter.
Together We Rise!!!

Cajun fans will continue to complain about the SBC, but BOP is the Cajun Radio guy, he is not going to pound Karl Benson. He isn't the Cajun fan base per say, he has called some of them turds at times as well.
But we are enjoying some your fan's dog and pony show, and many of us find it ironic that App State fans are complaining after lecturing Cajun fans of doing the same.
