Yes, Memphis almost pulled it off recently and back in the 70s as well. I was pulling for them even then and still like 'em except when they play MT in F'Ball or Baseball. The whole concept of power v. non-power conferences was non-existent back then. UTEP was independent in 1966 when they won it all. Memphis was in the national championship game in 1973 as the Missouri Valley champion. Louisville was the MVC champ in 72 and went to the final four.
