RE: Owls in the MLB 2015
Holt's average dipped to .286 after going 1-for-8 last night and the night before combined. But of more interesting note in those games, Brock got his first action of the season at first base, moving from LF and SS to 1B when Farrell wanted to sub out Napoli. He has now fielded every position for the Red Sox this season except pitcher and catcher. Amazing.

And he still has the second highest average on the team of those with 100+ABs. Everyone else is hitting below .263.

And as a starting pitcher, no less, on a Toronto team making a serious playoff push with the recent acquisitions of Tulo and Price.
Very cool. Welcome to the bigs, mr. duffey

Whoops. Thanks for that. Of course, I knew he's still on the Twinkies, which is the reason he got called up.

He was getting close last night. Two drives almost to the warning track last night, including 1 to deep center that Granderson almost didn't get to in a 10-pitch at bat. Let's hope he continues to stay healthy and puts it all together.

Tyler's rise through the Twins system as a starter has been steady.

Not sure if it has been mentioned anywhere here--i haven't been lurking here much recently --but Janish was called up by the Orioles about two weeks ago after JJ Hardy got hurt:

If Mets win tonight, after being down 7-1, put a fork in Washington.

Done. Pitching has been horrible since the trading deadline, particularly that bullpen. No mental toughness to hold leads. It's probably not as bad as I'm making it out, but it always seems to just fall apart the last few weeks.
Ray Knight just said on the post-game that 4 of the last 9 games have been blown from the 7th inning on. Says quite a bit.

RE: Owls in the MLB 2015
Another probable blown lead in the eighth for Washington - from up 2-1 after 7 to now down 4-2 with only 1 out in the top of the 8th. The horrors continue.
EDIT:
And they lost. And this stat is stunning, showing it's more than just pitching. Too many low scoring games, like tonight.
ESPN Stats & Info @ESPNStatsInfo
Bryce Harper has .473 OBP since All-Star break.
Rest of Nationals over that span? .309 OBP (would be worst in NL)

Noticed that Williams is getting hammered for having Rendon sac bunt last night. Sounds like a terrible decision.

Once the count got to 3-1, with Harper on deck, I think it's a valid question. I wonder how Walt feels about that strategy, generally being more pro-bunt than many, and a Mets fan, too. (Not sure if he saw the 9th inning Tuesday or not.)
Tonight, Rendon batted cleanup and did successfully bunt for a single after Harper hit another HR to get the score to 4-3 in the bottom of the 8th. But that was it - next batter out, and pretty much overwhelmed by the Mets closer in the 9th.
There will be changes to this club.

RE: Owls in the MLB 2015
There was a stat shown on the tube last night: 85 of 88 ESPN "experts" picked the Nats to win the NL east. Pitching was supposed to be their strong suit, but against the bullpen has not been able to hold leads. MLB radio is assuming that Matt Williams is gone as soon as the season ends. They question his use of pitchers, the Rendon bunt,...about everything this "inexperienced" manager does.
Of course they've also had a ton of injuries this year...glad that AR is back, seemingly healthy.

The Mets have had a ton of injuries, as well-- Wheeler out for the year, Wright out for from mid-April - late August, Cuddyer on and off the DL repeatedly, Duda in and out of the lineup with a bad back (and on the DL several times), Parnell on the DL, etc.
Yes, the Nats bullpen has imploded, but it's not as if their starting pitchers have lived up to expectations.
