Looks like nobody did Carolina any favors. They still have Wisconsin and Arizona alive in their bracket. Arizona, as the highest seeded #2 wound up in the bracket because Wisconsin was the lowest seeded #1. For my money, Arizona should have been a #1 seed. I think they are the second best team in the tournament, behind only Kentucky.

It's pretty low class to be mocking uva when it never had fully recovered its rhythm after the loss of its all-american candidate. Especially since it had the best record over the season against all those other 5 acc teams in the sweet sixteen.

1. Go beetch to everyone else in this thread who was unimpressed with UVA.
2. Laughing at UVA in and of itself is not low class.

Updated championship odds:

Duke: 6-1
UNC: 25-1
UofL: 25-1
Notre Dame: 35-1
NC State: 60-1

With UK at 1-1, only three other teams are under 10-1. If you think they can be beat you can get solid odds on anyone else in the field.

Notre Dame rolls Wichita in impressive fashion to advance to the Elite 8.

UNC's season ends tonight. They led Wisconsin much of the night but couldn't execute like the Badgers the final 6 minutes.

Stainbrook for Xavier is the most un-basketball looking player ever. It looks like they dug a system administrator out of a datacenter, ran him through a Xerox machine at 125%, and told him to go to Gold's Gym for a week and stop eating donuts.

Story of the season. A few plays down the stretch the difference between winning and losing. But this team did better than I thought they would. Still sucks they let another game slip through their hands.

RE: Open Thread - NCAA Tournment
Thanks to Notre Dame's win last night and a guaranteed win tonight in the NC State / Louisville game, the ACC will earn a minimum of $30 million from this year's NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. If Duke wins and at least one of the three Elite 8 teams makes it to the Final Four, you're looking at a minimum of $33.6 million (I say minimum because the value of the units continues to increase over time).

The ACC really needs to get back to performing like this EVERY YEAR to offset the football revenue discrepancy vs. the SEC (Sugar Bowl vs. Orange Bowl).

That will leave the SECN revenue to catch up to, which falls on the league and ESPN to work out a deal for an ACCN.

Great game by Carolina last night -- these kids are a year and a key recruit away from the Elite 8 and probably two years away from the F4.

Sam Decker and Frank the Tank are simply TOOOO good at this point. No (real) shame in the loss.

NOTRE DAME!!!! - WOW. Just, please don't make any bold predictions in public.

I don't even make them in private.

I never understood the value of the concept of "trash talking". It seems juvenile plus those who do it before a loss (see WVU player) look like idiots.

Besides, I always assume ND will lose until I am sure that they will win. :)

Honestly, I don't see any way that ND can stay within 15-20 points of Kentucky. It has been a pretty good season so far, though.

Cards take down the Pack 75-65.

That's the fifth Elite 8 appearance in the last seven seasons for Louisville.

I still think State wins if Barber is not sick. When his first shots were short and he couldn't get up to the rim I wondered if he had caught what was has been going the universities in the Triangle. A couple others looked slow as well. Lacy was sick for the BC game three weeks ago. We were completely spent after the Pitt game in the tourney, where UNC players were beginning to get sick. Meeks was sick all this week. Now Barber, and looks like two more on our squad. We probably contaminated you tonight, but it won't show up till next week.

I guess you are entitled to think what you want but I disagree. No way you were winning tonight. Pitino has only lost 1 Sweet 16 game out of 13 tries -- and that was to UK last year when the refs helped them through every game to the champion game. That is NOT just me being biased or blind -- every team last year in that region said the same thing -- the refs were so far up their butts and calling such blatant things it was ridiculous. Every opponent they played had their star shooter on the bench within the first 5 minutes with 2 fouls. Yet their guys would go to the last 5 minutes of the game before the "makeup fouls" would be called to try to even out the numbers. It was the most lopsided series of tourney games I have ever seen in my life.

Anyway, CRP is a master at taking that first game of the second round with the 4-5 days of prep he gets. He finds a way to take away the other team's star and at the same time, plays some totally different stuff with our guys that no one has seen before. Now the next game, on a one-day turn around for the final four he is about even on wins and losses. So I'm not sure whether we get Sunday's game or not. But I had NO doubt about tonight. Plus he is a revenge genius -- he has hardly ever lost to the same team 2 straight times. We called our 2013 season the revenge championship. We beat every team that we had lost to that year during our BET and NCAA run with the exception of Gtown, who we didn't get to play again as they lost before the BET final. And we beat them by double digits -- including Duke in the Elite 8 after losing by 5 early in the year with Dieng out with a broken hand.

The only problem is that now Pitino faces Izzo who is known for doing the same.

Agree with uldn. I said it earlier in the season. Gottfried is not going to be mentioned high on the list of coaches you want for March game prep and in game adjustments. Pitino is 12-1 in the Sweet 16 for a reason.

Great matchup but the better team/coach combo won the game tonight.

Even though Kentucky looks virtually unbeatable, I'll cheer for Notre Dame tonight... unless it looks like the start of the WVU massacre, in which case I'll change channels!

For the life of Me I just don't get the way Kentucky, whom absolutely needs no help, always have 3 referees making unbelievable "Eyeball Contact" fouls against any opponent Kentucky faces. The fans get their chorus of Boo's going no matter how far ahead Kentucky is and it strikes fear into every ref working the game when Any call goes against UK. The mugging of opponents takes place out in the open but is never seen by these same refs. Reminds Me of WWF where refs are occupied while the otherTag team member whollops the downed wrestler.
