Yet more ammo for my "NIU to the AAC" argument. It's the launchpad to the P5... the sooner people realize that and push for that, the sooner we can get rolling. I really think it'd help fan support too. Playing against better opponents more regularly and better bowl berths WILL help fan support. As will the new stadium. Fancier place=more student interest/support (as long as they still get in for free)
You can argue about TV exposure and such but there is absolutely no doubt that fan support would quickly dwindle in the AAC, fans don't get excited about Temple, we proved this in the MAC
Since NIU played Temple in 2006 there hasn't been a higher attended game at Huskie Stadium.
27,039 for that game (it was Homecoming and a nice day). Hate to give MD an out on this, but Temple was not a member of the MAC in 2006. Their first year as a member of the MAC was 2007. The only time we played them at Huskie Stadium as a MAC member was 2010. That game was not well-attended.
MD is still full of crap about the AAC though.

Ok...I had 2010 in my head. Poorly attended as huskiebob points out.

Yup our fans hate 11am kick offs...students, locals and alums
That is why we now have 2:30-4pm kickoffs when it's up to us.
Now we just have to change people's mindsets about waiting to buy a ticket on game day to make sure that (enter excuse here) does or doesn't happen for them to go to the game.

RE: 2015 CFN preseason football rankings
My problem with the AAC is that even if you argue its a small step from the MAC (which is debatable), exactly what cost is that small step up worth? How attractive would NIU be for great high school athletes who know they are going to have to be travelling the country every week to play what equates to poor competition many times. What would happen to the great academic standing NIU athletics has developed with all this constant cross-country travel? I just fear you will have a situation where NIU slips in many sports because of this in terms of appeal to recruits, and also the level of recruit NIU gets both athletically and academically. A hoge poge of teams thrown together across the entire country scares me for longevity of that conference. NIU's shortcomings for Big 12 membership are not because NIU is in the MAC, its because of attendance and facilities, and both of these problems are being addressed right now with the facilities/scheduling upgrade. Maybe a move to the AAC would make sense, I just do not see it though, and I view it as an EXTREME risk and LOW reward situation. If things didn't work out for NIU in the AAC they would be homeless and would be forced back to Independent status, the MAC would under no circumstance take NIU back, nor should they.

I get up for some of those teams, Ball State @ NIU was one of the best games I remember in recent memory back in 2013.

Yes, and 32 degrees (if that is what it was at gametime) with DeKalb winds feels like 16 degrees.

It may have been because I was sick, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't 32 degrees for that game.

RE: 2015 CFN preseason football rankings
I like how MD is just making things up now as excuses not to join the AAC. Since when do 18 year old kids not want to travel? Also, it would be really terrible for all the Huskies' Florida recruits to have TWO teams from their home state in the conference. Pretty soon MD will say joining the AAC will risk too much national exposure and if the Huskies win TOO MUCH the Big 12 will feel threatened by them.

If NIU were to ever leave the MAC I would be happy with us continuing playing Ball St, WMU and Toledo frequently.
