More to the point, one can be good at something without being a MASTER of it, and two, a more talented individual will not only, be able to master something in less than 10,000 (think Beethoven, Bach) but will be better than a lesser talented person who also achieves 10,000 hours. Pastner should have enough "hours" to be good...he hasn't proved that, and even if he does get his 10,000 hours, his ceiling is decidedly lower than a lot of other people in coaching circles.

Next question:

Why in the world would you surmise that I was speaking about the coach and not anyone else? Last time I checked a player needed to put in a whole lot of hours in order to make shots...

Because i thought you gleaned from the book, that under no circumstances could a college basketball player achieve the 10,000 hours required. They will not achieve those hours unless they play in the pros. And while it is true that hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard, when talent DOES work hard it kicks everybody's ass. So if you are saying they will improve, well that is obvious, HOW MUCH you can improve and how far you have to go are more relevant figures than the 10,000 hour rule. We have so far to go, and our ceiling is (based on previous seasons) much lower than we would like.

Yes, typically McDonald's All Americans are not ready for D1. Glad you watched them once, which means you saw at the most 32 minutes of basketball, assuming they both played the entire game (not likely)

So if Josh is retained and the team does not perform well after this 7th year, will you go on record to say that a change is needed?

They performed well all during Pastner's tenure here.
Even this year in a down year we had a winning season.
Nice try to try and twist things to fit inside a box and perhaps someone's agenda.

and no. I will NOT go on record to say that a change will be needed at any time in the future. I will go on record with my thoughts and feelings at the time. COACH PASTNER and the entire University have my undying support, unlike most of the negative nellies around here

There is a perception that those who want Pastner gone don't support the team, etc.

That's not true in my case and probably many others. You root for the team/players and still think a change should be made.

LOL, not trying to twist. I'm just going by your words that you "will wait until after seven years". So in actuality, its not seven years or 8 years or 9. It's infinite. I get that. You made that clear in your second post that you support COACH PASTNER and the entire university. There are some who support THE UNIVERSITY and may not like the direction under Coach Pastner. fair enough for both sides. I once said that I would feel better in 3 years with Josh at the helm than I would with Cal when he was first hired. Not anymore. Reality has set in. It's not a bash of Pastner but a realization that he may not be fit for THIS job. I have realized our ceiling and I can see our limitations under him.

Then I stopped using my heart and looked at reality. Not to put a damper on things, but when and if Josh makes it to the tourney and past the first weekend, I would love to see it when we are up in our second tourney gameand there is no time left on the clock with the referees running to the locker room. I am a diehard fan, but now I realize our ceiling. From here on out, I will NEVER predict before the season how our season will unfold under Josh. If I can't say (or expect) something good, then I wont say (or expect) something at all. That's about as positive as I can be.

Spot on

I do not understand why you think that. You are free to do so but I will indeed be down there cheering for MY TEAM and MY COACH!

I don't understand why someone wouldn't appreciate (or at the very least UNDERSTAND) why I fully support them and will be there being a real fan, unwavering in my support. FAN is short for fanatic. I am fanatical about Memphis Tiger Basketball and I do NOT see that changing because of one SINGLE season under this coach in which we did not go to post season. To think otherwise is simply someone else's little pity party and I won't be party to said pity. (that's kind of fun to say aloud... try it... alliteration)

Hey Willie,

You can't win with the guard play we have. Where is the point guard? Pookie and Johnson can't do it. Cunningham needs to look for another team, he is a turnover waiting to happen. Slow guards won't win in big time college basketball. I don't see it happening with Josh. He knew he had this problem before the season started and he knew how slow Johnson was when he brought him in this year.
