From 2012-2015 four different non-TR schools won the Tourny. Prior to that it was a rare occurrence:

Maryland: 1958
South Carolina: 1971
Virginia: 1976
Maryland: 1984
Georgia Tech: 1985
Georgia Tech: 1990
Georgia Tech: 1993
Maryland: 2004

What stands out about these stats is that prior to this current run you have to go back 26 years to find four non TR champions, and 40 years to find four different non TR champions. But the most baffling part about all of this is that in the entire history of the ACCT, only four different programs managed to do this before 2012.

As simple as it is to have four different teams win it like this is unprecedented for the conference. Considering how top heavy the conference is and with consistent powers like ville, cuse, and the possibility of a trickle down effect on VT, UVA, BC, Pitt, & ND I think it's safe to say that we will never seen TR dominate like it once did again.

Not too hard to understand what's going on here. Prior to ACC expansion, half of the teams were from NC. Now it's less than 1/3.

Yeah, but only having 8 non-TR champs is pretty ridiculously lopsided no matter how you put it.

It was worse than half, except for a two year period when Clemson had Tree Rollins and during 3 years of Rick Barnes' tenure at Clemson, Clemson has generally been non-competitive with whomever is in the top half of the ACC or Southern Conference for the last 90 years.

South Carolina was the "basketball" school in the SoCon and the ACC from South Carolina and the left after 50 years in 1971.

The Southern Conference split first at 23 members when 13 schools left to form the SEC. The SoCon had been allowed to balloon again by 1937 to 16 members and to 17 by 1950 with the addition of West Va.

In that 20 year period, a champion in basketball came from outside the Big 4, just 5 times. South Carolina, Clemson, George Washington and Washington and Lee twice. The regular season leader only came from outside the state of NC 5 times - West Va, and South Carolina and W&L twice.

Adding basketball centric schools like Syracuse and Louisville, and schools with a history of good basketball programs like ND and Pitt make it impossible for NC schools to dominate as they did before the expansion from 12 to 14.

So yes a tipping point has been reached. K will gone in the next 5 years and UNC's future going forward is not as bright as it's past. State has yet to fully recover from committing basketball suicide in 1991. WF has not shown it has received from Prosser's untimely death.

I'm still interested to see how Dino Gaudio would have done if he wasn't fired after a Round of 32 loss in the NCAA Tournament.

There's not much to wonder about, the answer is poorly. Dino's next class busted hard. He wouldn't have recovered from that.

IIRC Gaudio had problems with player behavior on campus - that's not tolerated at WF as it is at other places. If you are at WF your ass better behave.
