Four losses stick out. I think truthfully, we probably needed the FGCU game more.
1. Best Defender gets hurt at halftime of a game we were winning against top 30 team FGCU at home. After leading for 35 minutes, they come back and win by 6. Our only home loss.
2. Back in November, we had come off a close loss to top 20 Mississippi State in the WNIt. Our old friends WKU, who beat us in the final seconds of the SBC Title game last year, were playing Colorado in a game. If WKU loeses, we play them. Players and Coaches get excited about extracting revenge. Instead, WKU beats Colorado in the final seconds, We're shipped off to Boulder, and have to travel a strange way to get there because of flight issues. We never really show up and Colorado wins by double digits.
3. Up Double Figures late 2nd half against App State in Boone, we go to sleep for the last 4 minutes and App completes a miracle comeback and wins in the final seconds on a three pointer.
4. We have to play at the Cajuns as part of a back to back road set that included a game at Troy less than 48 hours later. Cajuns shoot like 65 percent from the field, and play their best game of the season, while we counter with our worst. We lose by 15.
I think ultimately FGCU is more harmful because it was at home, and would have been another top 50 RPI win. Colorado was sort of ignored at the time, but that really came back to bite us late. I still believe fully that we got caught dreaming of playing WKU, only to get sent to Boulder. Sort of opposite of what you would normally expect. App was our worst loss...but probably gets overlooked if we win the first two.
