The top 5 (half of) the teams in the CAA are still playing.

Odd mix of teams in the CBI this year. Looks like they were affected by the CIT's aggressiveness in signing teams last week. a third of the teams seem to be solid candidates in the CBI, but there seems to be a lot of backfill.

Big Al in Richmond ESPN radio was trash talking JMU and our decision to travel to this tourney this morning. Wanted to call in and defend our decision but callers never win in those situations.

Just like last week when he and his 2 basketball cronies called UR's loss to JMU a "bad loss" and it will keep them out of the tourney -which it kind of did... pretty ironic that a conference "co-champion" is a bad loss. CAA and JMU get NO RESPECT. Don't see that changing anytime soon.

What, specifically, was his problem with JMU playing in the CIT?

The "bad loss" that really kept RU out of the tourney was their loss to Mason.

The "bad loss" that really kept RU out of the tourney was their loss to Mason.

Per RTD:

The chairman of the Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, Utah State athletic director Scott Barnes, said the Spiders were discussed “extensively” as potential at-large qualifiers for the NCAA field of 68.

“When you think of their overall body of work, against the top 50 they were 3-6, and 4-4 against top 100,” said Barnes. “Two losses to teams in the 150 range was something that was also discussed. And one in the 220-plus range, a loss to George Mason, was taken into consideration.”

That is a very good mid major field. I would be happy with one win. My gut tells me we won't do so well and the fire Brady posts will follow.

RE: CIT Bid
I hope the Dukes show up ready to play, USC Upstate is favored by Vegas.

Their schedule is a scream How does a team that hosts Barber Scotia, which is a historically black college here in Concord NC that doesn't even have a degree program anymore beat Georgia Tech and Mississippi State?

There shouldn't be any depth perception problems for JMUs shooters at the Hodge Center.

I wish I was in town tomorrow night, I would have made the drive down to Spartanburg. I could have added the Spartans to my life list of teams I have seen play in person.

Go Dukes!

Just was kidding a JMU Alum who had called in asking if he wanted to travel to SC to watch the game? The JMU alum said he was a "marginal BB fan" and had no interest. Said he was a FB fan. Big Al could be heard saying "SC Upstate" in a condescending tone. Booker (old codger that is a guest host) said he was disappointed in Jeff Bourne for not coming up with the cash to get a home game. But they all agreed that is was likely due to the fact that had blew their budget on the playoff game.

I love being a bad loss for the Ticks. It is almost more pleasurable than being a good loss.

UR was one missed shot from being 0-3 against the horrible CAA this year.

I don't have time to do the analysis but I am pretty sure that I can prove based on history that the Ticks were better off in the CAA than they have been since leaving. If you consider NCAA appearances and attendance as the main reasons to change conferences, I would bet that the TIcks made the tourney more frequently and had a higher average attendance per game when they were in the CAA. Although the games with VCU may have skewed the average attendance figures over the last two years. I am not suggesting that the CAA is where we should be but I am suggesting the right solution is a regional conference where all of the VA schools except for UVGay, Tech, and now possibly VCU is the best solution for all involved.

RE: CIT Bid
But is UR making more money in the A10? You are correct that attendance was higher in the CAA with the exception of VCU. Until VCU joined the A10, I know your assumption was correct.

I guess the TV and tournament money is greater than the money they made from CAA ticket sales? Also, the exposure they get in the northeast is greater, which is where their future students and alums are.

They A10 is the perfect regional basketball conference now with the exception of Dayton, St. Louis and Davidson.

Richmond needs money? Of all the schools in Va, Richmond is the least likely to prioritize money as a reason to change conferences.
