By the time Frank left Chris Crawford moved like a 40 year old couch potato (OK, maybe I am exaggerating a little bit). Both he and Joe Jackson had even more internal rotation in their shoulders and their slouch had gotten even worse then when they were freshmen.
One of a strength and conditioning coach's job is to fix these problems not make them worse.
I only know of Frank's methods from what I have read on here and in a few magazines, but if it is true that he didn't use weight training and had kids with poor body movement, as Crawford and Jackson have, running up hills with sand bags then yes, that is going to cause major problems.
While ascending a rope or sand hill with a weighted vest is awesome, it mostly provides metabolic conditioning and will eventually break the body down causing injuries, most likely to the knees (poor hip movement will cause your knees to wear out or knee valgus). Proper weight training cannot be replaced. The Russians know this, the Chinese know this, all of America knows this, except, apparently Frank (and his supporters).
If you want to be able to run up and down the court really well for half a season, Frank sounds like he would be a capable trainer. If you want to increase your work capacity and ability over a broad time, you need weights.
I am not blaming Frank, Pastner hired Frank for what ever reason, if he was the mistake that I think he was, then that mistake was Pastner's not Frank's. Frank is really good at what he does but he probably needs to stick to "high profile clients" looking to lose some weight, it appears to me that is what he would really be good at.
