What I also find disturbing is Beamer had this kid practicing until it became public. Before that everything was OK.

I'm not aware of a big gap between when it was determined to be a crime (by the police) and when it became public... are you? (I'm honestly asking - I don't know)

Police obtained a warrant for McKenzie's and Gavion's DNA on Feb. 27 after two girls, one 15 and another 14, met two adult males using social media, whom they later identified as McKenzie and Gavion.
Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer suspended McKenzie indefinitely Tuesday after the charges were made public.

If these charges were only made a week ago, it's a little over the top to criticize VT or Beamer for "delaying" to take action. I'd like to think they would spend at least a little time checking this out themselves.

TIFWIW but a poster on Rivals posted this... total heresay but.
"Picking up middle school/barely high school girls on social media as a college student, yeah that's acceptable. As a VT faculty member and a parent of a child not much older who is in high school, I'm completely appalled. I see this kid on campus, and I see thousands of female college students walking around and in my classes. You mean to tell me he has to look to a middle schooler. What bothers me even more, the athletic department knew about this, and didn't suspend him until it went public. That's right, they waited and allowed him to practice knowing what he did, and felt it was ok until the public found out.
This is very sad, and knowing its just a misdemeanor is even worse."

A warrant was issued Friday for DNA. Assuming they got the sample then they might not get results before Tuesday. It's pretty stupid to blame Beamer for not preemptively suspending someone over a misdemeanor. It isn't like it's football season and the kid is injured. So there is not much difference it would make at all.
I'm guessing if the girls were honest about their ages there would have been rape charges brought.

The incident only happened 3 weeks ago. Just how soon did this anonymous poster think VT's athletic department "knew about this"? This is worse than just hearsay. It's muckraking.

You keep saying he was 'allowed to practice' when Spring practice hasn't started yet.

Honestly if they were able to get the results that quick is outstanding. The vast majority of the criminal justice forensic labs are overworked, understaffed, and underbudgeted and have a huge backlog.
