It is a good article and well written. I think some of the Breeze writers should take note. One thing that I question is his statement about it being the first times the JMU football team has reach a 3.0. Quote, "a feat never accomplished by the football team at JMU." I question this and personally do not believe he really knows that to be true. I'm sure he meant during his time or maybe within the recent past, but that is not what he said.

Regarding the 3.0 statement, it very well could be that someone from the football staff told him that & he took them at their word.

Prolly, and how did tutor sessions intensify ? Good article little embellishment but that is what he is suppose to do.

Thanks, I just won $5, seriously. I'll buy you a beer with it if you promise not to discount everything about the "new era".

He probably won the $5 by betting someone that you discount everything about the new era.

Meh, MM had hard workouts. You can work out all day and night but Maryland still ran circles around you when the day came.

Not trying to discount anything about the "new era". But cmon you can't really believe everything you read , I dont care how much you buy in. I dont believe in "purging " young men in college lol. And 5 am grueling workouts are nothing new to JMU , just now they have a staff who talks about it to the media and ppl are more socially in-tuned to the program.
I stated he brought some good new content to the program. But I not going to act like Withers is reinventing the wheel.

He hasn't reinvented the wheel but he has changed the culture. Instead of hoping for a good year, I go into next season expecting one. Sometimes it is the little things that really make the difference and get a program over the hump. Withers is giving his players valuable life tools they can take with them after college.

The coaches took a more active role in getting the players studying on a regular and consistent basis. Tutors can't make the players do the work but a coach can have more of an impact in a number of ways.

Exactly....it is one thing to have mandatory study sessions and tutors available and quite another to have coaches being an active participant in that process.
And as for 'The Purge' that seems to me to be a very good approach with a brand new staff looking to take a program forward. If you have ever coached it is pretty easy to pick out players after only a few workouts/practices who are cruising and not 'all in'. And quite frankly those are players you are not going to miss b/c they are players that will quit on you when things get tough or start going badly in a game.
