What will it take for CUSA to get multiple teams dancing?
Let's look at the top RPI teams in the leage:
La Tech 20-7, RPI #66, record vs top-50 RPI 0-2
UTEP 19-7, RPI #60, record vs top-50 RPI 2-2
ODU 20-6, RPI #48, record vs top-50 1-0
La Tech's remaining schedule: (all home games) UTEP (RPI #60), UTSA (RPI #214), and USM (RPI #310).....2-1 is very likely....3-0 is doable, putting them at 23-7 or 22-8 and somewhere around the 70 RPI range (the 214 and 310 RPI games will bring them down some....)
UTEP's remaining schedule: @ La Tech (RPI#60), @ USM (RPI#310), home vs North Texas (RPI#212), and Rice (RPI#269)....4-0 is doable but 3-1 is more likely....putting them 23-7 or 22-8 and RPI somewhere in the 70s (thanks to USM, UNT, and Rice).
ODU's remaining schedule: @ Rice (RPI#269), @ North Texas (RPI#212), home games vs Marshall (RPI#298), and WKU (RPI#122)...4-0 is doable and 3-1 is likely...putting them somewhere around 24-6 or 23-7 and an RPI in the high 60's.
...not to mention, you've got the conference championship game. What needs to happen for CUSA to get the MAX number of teams dancing? Who needs to beat who down the stretch of the regular season? Which upsets would be DEVASTATING for CUSA that would SECURE we only get 1 bid into the dance? Who needs to beat who in the CUSA tourney so we can keep our 3 highest ranked RPI teams (La Tech, UTEP, and ODU) in a good RPI-position to get a sniff at the dance.
What's it gonna take for CUSA to get 2 or 3 teams dancing? Is 3 even possible????

We have to hope for the least amount of upsets in all the other leagues.

All three of those teams need to win out and advance 1 game in the tourney. Then hope for few upsets in other leagues. It could happen, but it will be close. We need at least 2 teams in each year.

The only chance CUSA has of getting two teams in the Dance (three is not even possible) is for the following to happen:
1. ODU wins out in the regular season and gets to the Tourney CG.
2. Winner of La Tech/UTEP this week wins out in the regular season and beats ODU in the Tourney CG.
Otherwise, CUSA will be a one bid league.

This is the only way I can see it happening, and even in this scenario ODU is on the bubble and would need some love from the selection committee.

ODU had the best shot early, but they lost some recent games that make it very difficult for a bid. ODU would need to win out and make the CCG for a hope of an at large. SOS at 156 is high and still more high rpi games coming.
La Tech sos at 233. That is tough to overcome with the committee. Any team received an at large with a rpi over 40 with sos over 233?
UTEP- SOS not too bad at 118. Maybe if they win out and get wins against the lower rpi teams they have a shot.
My bet is if someone gets an at large it is UTEP.

Everything would have to fall into place for that to happen.
Seriously doubt 2 teams is happening this year. RPIs and SOSs aren't where they need to be.

Bigger question might be can CUSA get 2 bids in NIT? That is more possible than 2 bids this season in NCAA tournament...And will WKU accept for the first time ever the 3rd rate CBI/CIT tournament invite?

ODU's OOC SOS is 55. UTEP's OOC SOS is 34. Not sure the difference is that stark.
UTEP currently has 3 top 100 wins, ODU has 6.
If UTEP wins out their RPI will only get to around 50. If ODU wins out the RPI will be in the low 30s. Not sure that is enough.
Either way, CUSA needs other bubble teams to lose because even if everything goes right nobody is a lock.

I don't think any of those teams but ODU can be considered bubble.
Yes you are correct bubble NIT

What will it take for CUSA to get multiple teams dancing?
That's an easy answer. It'll take two conference tournament champions. We all know that's impossible.
C-USA is a one bid league...again.

So True. These ODU fans still think they have a chance at an at-large, while they are currently fifth in CUSA. It is freakin hilarious

If ODU wins out, then beats WKU and UTEP before losing to LT in the finals, RPIForecast is 31. That would certainly do it. Losing to UTEP in the semis puts us at 35. Losing to WKU in the quarters puts us at 43. The best chance for CUSA to get 2 bids wrests on ODU winning out.

Our RPI would be around 31. With our top 100 wins and OOC performance, we'd be a lock. The selection committee has been pretty fair to us in the past.

RE: What will it take for CUSA to get multiple teams dancing?
It's going to take some luck for ODU to make it. There are a whole bunch of power conference teams with 7-10 losses, a loss or two from some of these and ODU finishing out the regular season with Ws makes it. There are plenty of 10 or even 11 loss teams like NC State and Oregon making noise with top 10 wins though, a couple more of those are possible and that leaves ODU out.
I just think that there are too many middling Big East, MWC and A10 teams to take up the spots. I'll be pissed if a 9 or 10 loss AAC team gets in over a 7 loss ODU, none of Cinci, Tulsa or Temple have looked that impressive.
