Couple miles at most.

3.3 driving. It's not bad.

RE: legacy arena ?
Our attendance BTW compares very well with UTEP's based on last year's tournament attendance.

It is hard to do a direct head-to-head comparison based on the way they reported attendance and the way the tournament was set up last year vs. this year. For example, in the quarterfinals here we report attendance in 2 separate sessions. For UTEP last year, it appears there is only 1 attendance total for all the quarterfinals combined unless there is a missing attendance from a box score.

So for the sake of this discussion, I will look at totals for the day for the last 3 rounds.

2015 CUSA Tournament (Birmingham):
- Quarterfinals = 11,261
- Semifinals = TBD
- Championship = TBD

2014 CUSA Tournament (El Paso):
- Quarterfinals = 8,252
- Semifinals = 5,611
- Championship = 4,870

2013 CUSA Tournament (Tulsa):
- Quarterfinals = 13,026
- Semifinals = 8,006
- Championship = 7,019

2012 CUSA Tournament (Memphis):
- Quarterfinals = 19,627
- Semifinals = 14,441
- Championship = 14,821

You appear to be missing some of the sessions, seems like that might just be half the total for El Paso. This news story had the total at 39k over the entire tournament: http://www.ktsm.com/news/c-usa-tournamen...-down-2011

(or maybe the totals include women's games? dunno)

I am not including the earlier sessions, though I did glance at one of the attendance figures from an early session game which was comparable to UAB's attendance (actually slightly less than UAB).

I'm going off the box score from the CUSA main site. Most of the time, quarterfinals have 2 sessions with an attendance figure for each. For the quarterfinal round in El Paso, there is only 1 box score with attendance (the last game of the day), so this was the reason for the assumption that it was all lumped into 1.

The semifinals and championship statistics can't really be questioned. They are listed in the box score on the CUSA official site.

These attendance results lead me to think we should limit future CUSA tournaments to no more than 6 teams.

I was actually thinking 8 teams myself. That would make the regular season meaningful and reduce teams with pitiful conference records from taking an autobid.

I have no problems with teams with poor records getting the autobid. Part of the allure of college basketball is that even though the big dogs rule the roost, the Cinderella team exists and can get hot for a few days and upset the apple cart. College basketball gives everyone hope that even though your season sucks, there is a ray of hope that at the end of the season you still have a slim chance to get into the tournament that will determine the national championship.

I like 6 with the top two teams getting a bye.

Also, according to some comments, Rice did not even bring the band and cheerleaders for their women's game last night. It sounded like an ODU home game. I would hope all schools are bringing their bands and support teams with them for all games.

Rice, UTEP and the FUs didn't bring a band.

If you're a fan of any of those schools and you heard your fight song, you can thank the UAB band. My kid will have played 4 (maybe 5) basketball games between yesterday and today.

Per Little Smaug, the Rice women were very appreciative.

kudos and 04-cheers to good training wheels!
