Will ESPN3 be carrying any baseball games this year?

I would be surprised just because there is no room and easy hookup for the camera people...or announcers.

The schedule is a lot more manageable this year. Good Luck!

Are you talking about this weekend from Austin Peay....or is your comment in relation to home games?

My mistake. Yes, I was speaking of home games. I should have known that we were not playing at home yet!

NIU Athletics said they won't be showing any home games on ESPN3, they are not sure about away games.

Yes, I was speaking of home games.

HuskieJohn, simply wanted to be clear before responding to your initial comment which I didn't understand. Why isn't there room in the McKinzie Field press box? In the old days, a few baseball games were on SportsChannel with Ron Kittle among the color commentars used. They had one camera on top of the press box which has a hatch in its roof exactly for that kind of access. They also had one camera behind the home plate netting, another on top of scaffolding aimed at home plate from right of centerfield, plus one near the third base dugout. Since there's no replay reviews ala football, perhaps all those cameras wouldn't be necessary and they could get by with one on top of the press box and one near third. Even if it were for only two or three games, it should be feasible for baseball (or softball). For such a limited schedule, they could get Bill Baker, NIU alum Jeff Leon (long-time Rochelle radio broadcaster), or someone to do play-by-play with an ex-NIU coach like Dave Mason for color (former softball coach Dee Abrahamson also still lives in DeKalb). Even for a minimum number of games, it would be something memorable and unique for those programs.

Sounds good if there is room. It just seemed like a super small area for the PA, a TV crew and the hook up for one or two TV cameras.

I wonder if NIU will ever be able to put the sports we produce to be on ESPN3.com to be on Channel 8 in the Dorms.

It's the Huskies' first opening day win since at least 2002 (as far back as I could find).

I was gonna say, I can't remember them winning an opener.

According to the NIU release,

"NIU’s last win in the first game of the season was on Feb. 24, 2001, when NIU swept UT Martin in a doubleheader, 13-3 and 19-5 (6). NIU has played 16 doubleheaders on opening day."

Ha, you linked to To Kill A Mockingbird trivia. For some reason, I can't stop laughing.
