Just like 2014, the 2015 AAC baseball season has zero regular season home games televised. We will have a handful of road games vs SEC opponents shown on either the SEC-Network or ESPN-3.
Now, lets be honest, college baseball is not a huge draw so I wouldn't expect a large number of nationally televised games. However, when CUSA has managed to get 3 nationally televised regular season home baseball games carried by Fox this year with another 11 CUSA home baseball games televised nationally by the new syndicated ASN (American Sports Network)--one has to wonder exactly who feel asleep at the switch in Providence.
Not to mention, our own American Athletic Conference Digital Network will be carrying a total of zero baseball games and zero softball games. Yay digital network! What are we working on all spring, next fall's football highlight reels? The only coverage the digital network will provide is the post season championship tournaments. The regular season will be for all intents and purposes, invisible.
Baseball has the potential to be a revenue sport for several AAC schools. There are some solid upper tier baseball programs in the AAC. Houston, ECU, UCF, and Tulane are almost always strong. It seems to me this is EXACTLY where we should be picking up the exposure slack by using the AAC Digital Network to create feeds that are either broadcast over the Digital Network or streamed through the ESPN-3 site. If I have a current criticism of Aresco--this is it. No reason we cant utilize our digital network the same way larger conferences use their conference networks. The Mountain West digital network literally runs circles around our pathetic effort.
We need to step it up. No reason the MW or CUSA should be beating us in the exposure department.
Alright, rant over.
