Minute Maid "Classic"
I guess I missed it, but why are we not there this year?

RE: Minute Maid "Classic"
There's a conflict with conference games that weekend. We'll be back next year.

Apparently it was a scheduling conflict.

What difference does it make? What is so special about the Minute Maid Classic?

Yes, we did. The CUSA official opener is a week later, but in order to get a bye the weekend of Finals Week, the conference allows us to schedule a conference mate if one will agree to the earlier scheduling. Charlotte was good enough to agree this year. Unfortunately, next year, we couldn't get anyone to agree, so we're playing Minute Maid, BUT for the first time in well over a decade we will be forced to play the weekend of Finals.

Didn't help that he Astros moved the tournament to a week later in the month this year.

I agree. I miss the two preseason 4 team weekend tourneys from years ago. Really prefer Reck to Maid! 01-ncaabbs

I'll be a bit of a contrarian on this. I love the Minute Maid Classic. It gives me an opportunity to see bunch of teams and a bunch of quality teams in a short time. Plus I usually stay across the street and just mosey over to the stadium at my leisure. No parking or traffic issues.
Hopefully next year will be the best of both worlds. With good opening series and the Maid, too.

I like it too. I also really like MinuteMaid (probably my favorite MLB stadium out of the 16 ive been to) and enjoy watching games there.

Good exposure as well.

I like Minute Maid fine. But I don't see its lack as a scheduling debacle. This year's schedule has UT & Stanford at Reckling, continuation of the UH series, and a three-game stand at Arizona. It's a great nonconference slate without Minute Maid.

Again, I believe our OOC weekend schedule for next year is as follows:

@ UT x 4
Home vs. UCF
Home vs. ECU
Minute Maid tourney

RE: Minute Maid "Classic"
Wouldn't RICE make more money off of a 4 team Reck tourney preseason rather than College Classic participation??
