RE: Confessions of a Congressman.
Very good read, but the author needs to put his/her name on it.

RE: Confessions of a Congressman.
#1 is in dispute... otherwise, we'd see more Congressmen/Senators speaking up about crap the American public doesn't want.

#5 - Gridlock is a good thing. "Govt that governs the least..."

#6 - Goes back to #1:

Quote:They feel it is vital to party success to have a national "message" that is usually poll-driven, not substantive

Nope... or Amnesty would be dead in the water, Obamacare would never have gotten through. They don't give a damn about the polls or the American public in those kind of issues.

#9 - Is TOTAL bull****. If you can't handle the cynics of the CRAP your passing, then get the hell out of the House/Senate.

RE: Confessions of a Congressman.
First we get this:
Quote:I am a member of Congress. I'm not going to tell you from where, or from which party.

Later on, we get this:
Quote:Now that the Supreme Court has ruled that money is speech and corporations are people, the mega-rich have been handed free loudspeakers.

So we know the author is either a Democrat or John McCain (the Senate is technically a part of Congress, although in media-speak "Congress" usually = "House".)

I think it's a D too, but I know why the guy did it because people on the right wouldn't read it if he came out that way. You tell me what percent of R's in here would read it. Maybe 10%?

Rather less than 10%, I would guess.

And that cuts both ways, too. Less than 10% of D's would read a comparable essay by Tom Price or Kevin McCarthy or Joni Ernst.

Not only is there no mutual respect, trust, or fellowship across party-lines anymore. They don't read the same books, listen/watch the same shows, peruse the same magazines/websites, or frankly have Anything to do with one another, except for a few ceremonial or media-driven occasions where it simply can't be avoided.

If you thought it was from an R, you wouldn't have posted it.

By the way, Citizens United also protects your beloved unions. And Tom Steyer. And George Soros.

Want to get the big money out of politics? Make it illegal and punishable by prison to vote on any legislation that directly benefits a person or corporation that donated X amount of dollars. This would be constitutional as the freedom of speech is still there. The SCOTUS ruling was correct.

I would read something a R posts. Cripe sakes I read the daily 20 postings from the Drudge Report twice. Once there and here. We have maybe 4 Lefties on here. Shoot me alone puts the D's at 25%.

I was referring to the broader audience of political-interested people overall, not just the ones who comment/lurk here on csnbbs.

Socratic. This is another time where you are a d*** for no reason. There have been times where I have called you out for being bi polar. At times you add to the Spin Room. I enjoy the angle of your view points. Other times your just a d***. I don't get it nor do I understand it. I most definitely would have posted it because I thought it was a decent read.

I only think it was a D because of the section on Citizens United but I do think that people on the other side of the aisle have some of the same concerns I have about the corrupting power of money. It could be a conscious R.

The beloved unions line is misplaced because we ALL understand their waning power. I want to have a constructive dialogue on here but some people and that includes you (half of the time) make it darn near impossible. Quit being a D***.

I like the part about Primaries. That is most definitely of substance and has merit. As a matter of fact this is a key component of Heritage Action's strategy.

I also like the part about data mining. I think Obama's 2012 were way ahead of the curve on this. I had a girl who cut my hair telling me how they had a political operative in there and she didn't identify herself as affiliated with any political party. As she was cutting my hair she was telling me how impressive the lady was and she registered like 8 people that day to vote. All of the hairdressers registered. She didn't tell them who to vote for, only that she wanted to sign up people up to vote. You know damn well that was a D operative.

There is no guaranteed, fool-proof way to completely get around the effects of gerrymandering. But the "open primary" system currently used in California and Louisiana is one way to at least help to mitigate the damage. I hope other states will follow suit.
