Henderson is big at 5' 11" 215. That means he will more than likely play at 225 to 230 at running back. He runs downhill (forward body lean) but still makes lateral cuts. (7:25 mark) He plays linebacker on defense and seems to enjoy contact.
I think the fact that he came from a small 3A school caused some large schools to back off. I know Florida was very interested early on. Then again Herschell Walker played in the smallest classification in Georgia and was doubted by a lot of analysts. We all know what happened with him. 3A (1A through 7A in Alabama) is certainly small schools but Madison Academy is close to where I live and they are the equivalent of the 5A schools in my area. He had 200 yards on 30 carries against them in the State Championship.
Check out the run at 19:09 in one of the State playoff games.
At the 19:30 mark is the State Championship game against Madison Academy. You can see how he does against a well coached quality team at that point.
If this kid is that good... I'm trying to understand why the Auburn, AL, FL and other SEC schools did not come after him??? I don't get it, was that he only played in a small school classification? Don't make sense, recruiters are payed to project kids out... our staff did there home work and other schools didn't?
Henderson did have P5 offers. You are thinking Darrell Henderson. The Alabama and Floridas of the world get 5* and 4* backs. It depends where he is ranked on those schools priority list.

Alabama was only interested in him playing defense. They still didn't offer him though. No SEC school give him a committable offer. Florida come in late on him, but when they flipped the Miami RB commit they backed off.
It wasn't that he played in class 3A that scared the P5 teams off, it was his 40 time (4.6). He played against two class 5A teams this year and had over two hundred yards against both. Both schools reached the 5A playoffs. Gus Malzone was at one of those games because he was playing against one of his commitments (Richard McBryde). Jamarius made him look like a pee wee player on several occasions and I'm not exaggerating.
Like I said earlier in this post. There will be several teams kicking themselves in a couple of years for not signing him. Including my beloved Tide. I promise you this, no one is going to out work Jamarius on your team. He loves football and he has a huge chip on his shoulder right now. He is going to take it out on every team on your schedule and you guys are in for a real treat for the next three to four years.

He never had a offer from GT and never had a committable offer from Kentucky. There is a difference between a offer and a committable offer.
When Neal Davis left Kentucky and took the head coaching position at Troy, he was all over Jamarius. He was Jamarius's recruiter while at Kentucky. Some people think, this is why Jamarius never got the committable offer from UK. They think Neal was sand bagging to get Jamarius to Troy.

I think the 3 steals of this recruiting class are J. Henderson, Enis, and Peddy. I expect all 3 of them to contribute this fall. I'm still scratching my head as to why Peddy wasn't a 3-4 star recruit.

Thanks for the info. So his 40 time isn't his strength, but that may not be a hurdle to success. You seem pretty up on his game, what are his strengths as a runner that will make him so good? Thx!

His patience at the LOS is unbelievable for his age. Yet he can hit the hole like a missile when it's open. He can cut on a dime and then accelerate back to full speed by his third step. His forty is only 4.6, but he can hit that mark quickly. He runs with extreme power for his size and has great vision of the field while he is running.
These are the things that made him so good as a high school RB, but what is going to separate him from others at the next level is his ability to block and catch the ball out of the backfield. He is a ferocious hitter and doesn't shy away from contact. If you can find the Alabama VS Mississippi High School all star game on line, watch it and you'll see what I'm talking about.
All that being said, his best attribute is his Football I.Q and his work ethic. As you can imagine, Jamarius has been the football God in South Alabama for the past three years. He has won every award there is to win since his Sophomore year. Yet, he worked as hard as any player on his team and has been a true leader on and off the field. Barring any injuries, Jamarius will be one of the best RB's ever to have played at Memphis. I hope you guys enjoy him and appreciate him as much as we did, while he was at Dale County.

Thanks-your last paragraph is exactly what coach Fuente looks for and turns into great football players. I hope your projections end up spot on.

Our standard is DeAngelo Williams. I would love to have another perform at that level.

Sounds like a completely different type of back runner, but hopefully very effective none the less.
