RE: A fast one by the BOT next month?
"CAN"T DO THAT" is a phrase unknown to - or disregarded by - the BOT. They have always done whatever they please whether it is firing a UA president (Joab Thomas or Ann Reynolds), building something or blocking the building of something, or anything else. The system BOT is just one authoritarian body in an authoritarian run state (see recent remarks by Chief Justice Roy Moore, Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard or Dr Witt's attack on Rep. Williams). The "Rule of Law" only applies when it is a law that they support or approve. When law goes against them, they do their version of "Standing in the School house Door" (or the hospital door in the case of expanding medicaid).

But they couldn't do that. It would be illegal. They can sweep some things under the rug but spending millions of dollars out of the blue without anyone knowing about it would be over the line. It would be an act that even they couldn't justify.

Take the tinfoil hats off for a minute and think before you type.

Quote: Steel was being placed for the media center in Bryant-Denny Stadium before the Trustees approved construction - the UA alumni mag ran a very nice piece on it complete with color photos. Hopefully that will be among the many items discussed in the legislature's formal hearings.

That said, they're not going to rush a building onto the stadium site. It would interfere with the new Watts Monument (note the added hairpiece; the man's vanity knows no bounds):

I believe I heard from somewhere that the new weight room at bama was halfway through before they approved it's construction.

I read that too on BlazerTalk. Guess that means it's true

Can any source tell us if ANY building for a nonmedical use has been approved for UAB since Dr Watts became President? I am anxious since the run up to ending football was marked by reduced financial commitments (Legion Field contract, no future games arranged, limit on Clark's contract, etc) to that program over its final year. Are we seeing similar harbingers regarding UAB's future in such things as no new buildings for the undergrad side?

I'm concerned on this front as well. The major projects touted by Watts' bastardi fascisti, like the Student Center rebuild, are actually Garrison initiatives.

The pipeline for new buildings is pretty long, he hasn't been president long enough, really. All of the current new buildings and the School of Business building were all started under Dr. Garrison. The next new round of research/medical buildings started planning under her, too so when that stuff drops soon keep that in mind.

Ray may want something more classic, looking out over the moonscape of the former undergraduate campus:

That is my reason for specifying "nonmedical building" because any medical building might be paid for under federal grants and have no application to undergrad plans for the rest of UAB. To my knowledge, there are no major federal grants available for building regular curriculum academic or student service (HUC for exmple) structures for any university. If those no longer are being "put into the pipeline", it might be the type of warning we didn't understand about football until it was too late.
