Jerry Zielinski

Hands down, the best pure shooter I've seen at NIU. "Z" played 3 years for the Huskies from 1969-1972 (freshmen weren't eligible back then). Averaged 19.2 ppt for his career.

Zieliniski was 6'4" and not very athletic, but he could stroke it! If there'd been a 3-point rule when "Z" played, he would have averaged 23-24 ppg.

Only one pure shooter in that group - Jerry Zielinski.
McKiernan - Lock-down defender who guarded Doug Collins when we played ISU. Not a good shooter though.
Mason - Great at getting to the basket and shooting the pull-up jumper, but couldn't shoot from distance.
Hamel - Steady PG, but his highest average was 8.4 ppg. Not a big scorer.

Do people seem to forget Xavier Silas from a few years back? He may have only played here for two seasons, but he was in the top10 of scoring in the nation his senior season I believe.

There is a difference between shooter and scorer. Silas was a great scorer but not as consistent outside

RednBlack, I mentioned Silas earlier. He was a scorer and a great shooter and free-throw shooter.

Guys are so much longer, quicker and stronger today that it's hard to get open shots off and to get the ball where you want it.
