RE: What NIU Basketball player was the last or best pure shooter?
Of the ones I watched, I would say Lipniski and Molis. Oh, and Mike Brown.

Lots of good shooters named in this thread. A few I have never heard of. I can tell you for sure who it is not. Anyone on any of the teams from the last few years.

I don't think he's a bad coach but he's going to become a victim of injuries and inheriting a program that was ****. They'll likely going to win like 10 games next year and he'll be gone.
Monty just signed an extension no way he is being fired. Monty works to hard for the team not to be better next year. Marin is better than Tree. I cannot see how Johnson played in Big Ten horrible defensive player. Aaron does not start but I have always thought he should play more minutes instead of AJ. Pete will be replaced by the Milwaukee kids. The seniors provide decent depth but the kids coming in have more talent than most NIU recruiting classes. The Rockford point guard will push Orris to number three point guard next year. Naperville kid will be the shooter and Milwaukee kids have a ton more skill than the Gray twins.
Laytwan Porter seems to be a hell of a talent. A friend of mine, who's opinion I highly trust (currently an individual basketball coach, played D1 ball, and has been inducted to the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame as a HS PG), told me that he believes this kid is as good if not better than Fred VanVleet. I'll get a good look at him when Auburn plays Hononegah on Feb. 27th. Shouldn't be much of a challenge for Auburn though. They've been destroying everyone in their way, with the exception of St. Rita (only loss and lost by 2 points) and maybe one other team on their schedule (Normal?).
That's quite a statement. Hope so. Let him start next year....This team is starving for a true leader at the PG position.
So we will have an All American at NIU that will bring us to the final four in three years. Please stop drinking the KoolAid.
As I recall VanVleet had NIU in his top 3 college choices. Almost happened.

Top two, also Alec Peters went to Valpo instead of NIU. Peters is having a great career. Porter is not going to be as good as Vanvleet.

There are a number of things that are wrong with that final four scenario. Number one: VanFleet was not the starting point guard on Wichita State's final four run. Number two: that team had a number of NBA playersand last I checked Northern has none of those. Number three: Porter is a very good player but he is not a VanFleet. He has also not yet qualified.
All that being said he could be a four-year starter for Northern if he gets on campus and would improve the program considerably

Seems to me when we had those games against UWGB we had some good outside shooters but I don't remember who exactly made most of the 3s then.

Better mull that over a little more.
Between 1987-1997, we were 2-18 against UWGB. We didn't shoot the ball very well or do anything else very well against them.

He wasn't but he did win Valley player of the year on a team that had an undefeated regular season. The only reason they didn't go farther in the dance was because they drew the most talented team in the country in the 2nd round. He was the 6th man as a (I believe) freshman the final four year too.
Also, pretty sure the only player from either of those teams is Cleanthony Early and he's riding the bench for an awful Knicks team.
With that being said, VanVleet is a very rare find.

I have to say, I saw VanVleet multiple times when he played for Auburn. Was he a good player? Absolutely. Did I think he would ever become what he is today? No way.
