RE: Watts Interview with the KScope
Questions to ask next time.
What are the last 5 football games you attended ?
How often do you speak with board of trustee members, and which members do you meet with ?
Did you hire/appoint Smithers to his current job ?
How many people were interviewed for the job Smithers is doing ?
How much does your security detail cost per day ?
Have you seen Tristan Henderson, Coach Clark or Don Hire out in public in the last 8 weeks ?

I can't stomach him.
I wished to high heavens, someone would rip off his green and gold tie.

A guy making $850,000 decides to purchase a $25 green and gold striped tie because everyone said he didn't ever wear any UAB appropriate stuff.

I'd like to see Dr. G walk up behind Ray with scissors and remove the tie.
I'd really like to see Tristan Henderson do it, but I don't want him to get Porky Ray's blood on me.

RE: Watts Interview with the KScope
Watts stated "And, what we wanted to do is help all of our athletic teams be competitive in at least the upper half of Conference-USA, our conference, and we wanted some teams who had success to have the chance to win the conference and make everyone proud and go to NCAA playoffs of various kinds, even strive to win a national championship".
That's BASKETBALL TALK NCAA PLAYOFFS, football wasn't considered as part of the answer, where did Watts think the football team was headed, they had a really great chance to finish in the top echelon of teams in the conference and compete for a conference championship. This is BS and the interviewer was too polite, or Watts was privy to the questions prior to the interview, because he is just repeating the PR lines.

Not just yet.
He needs to hire some people to find out what is on the student newspaper's wish list first.

Regarding UAB athletics - there is NOT ONE sincere word coming out of this guy's mouth. He could care less.
Just a few days ago - I heard again - that he WAS at the SEC championship game. Was there ever a difinitive word on that?

That whole quote sounds like it comes from someone who has no clue about what sports is about. I bet he doesn't even know the rules of any of the sports UAB competes in.
UAB fans strive to do more than "compete in the upper half" of a conference like CUSA.
Lets see, our soccer teams are pretty stout, softball is always a contender, men's golf is usually pretty solid from what I remember, bball team won a share of the conference in the last 5 years, and football just had a 300% increase in wins after 1 season. Women's bowling is in the top 45 out of 110 schools who have the sport.

Do you think this is some deep seeded revenge because he was never chosen to play as a kid, always being the last one left over when all the good kids were chosen???

My understanding is that Ray Watts was a member of the West End Lions football team about one decade after Bill Battle, Jr played there. He may not be the best one to ask about how much or how well he played. He was a Chem lab assistant though.
What is ironic about that quoted statement is that his action (at the instigation of BOT leadership) may very well end all hope of UAB ever competing in any C-USA sport for any standing after June, 2015. He is admitting that he was totally ignorant of the C-USA bylaw requiring FBS football to be a conference member - or he hoped no one would notice.

From Ray, you are probably right, for Smithers, I have no doubt you are correct.
