New freshman dorm supposed to open in the fall. I wonder if we'll be able to fill it.

RE: New Student Center Renderings
Not sure. Only a handful at the freshmen scholarship event at The Club said that they had registered for student housing. It had only been available for a few days though.

The numbers of students in the new housing (or lack thereof) may be a very big indication to Watts & Co of the impact of his decisions.

Dr. Lucas mentioned new programs, etc. at the event.

All I was thinking though was - yep programs that the UA BOT allowed us to have.

Not 1 word mentioned about student life at UAB.

We should probably rename Blazer Hall...since "Blazer" is reserved for Athletics only. :-)

Don't be difficult. The rules about using the Blaze logo have been in place for a very long time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Watts wants to de-emphasize Blazer spirit at Blazer Hall.

When we visited back in November for the tour I was impressed with all of the Green & Gold.

Exactly! An on campus football stadium would have drawn a HUGE NUMBER OF BOOSTERS AS WELL AS GREATLY INCREASED ATTENDANCE AND MUCH IMPROVED RECRUITING.

Were the rules in place when they put it on the Student Center renderings?

RE: New Student Center Renderings
I wouldn't even call it a trade off. It's not like he actually wanted those dormitories or the student center. Dr. Watts is probably going to going to use the new buildings as a tangible point that he cares about the student body despite everyone knowing the truth. I'm not worried about him trying to pull something anytime soon, though. He's still an extremely toxic presence and he fans flames every time he appears somewhere.

We'd look kinda silly with one and no football team.

Are you kidding me? He would have made Herb Harrison a true-freshman starting forward for UAB and we would have gone to the Sweet 16!

How'd they manage that? The student portal for housing isn't open yet.

We got the card for my son yesterday, and it lists February 1 as the date the portal opens.

RE: New Student Center Renderings
I think you could start registering last Friday somehow.
Maybe from their MyUAB page.
Not sure though because I let my daughter handle this.

We plan on registering later this week.

That works for the University of Phoenix though. Their stadium has hosted a Super Bowl and they have no football team. (LOL)
And Gorilla's point explains well why the BOT blocked any chance of such facilities being built and killed the program before it could get any better.
