RE: New Student Center Renderings
I don't really care about the outside. I think the dragon head looked like crap in the old render but just chalked it up to early renderings. Other than that it looks fine.

I'm more disappointed that the inside looks so incredibly bland.

Why was the Humanities Bldg designed with open balconies?

Harder for a gunman or gunmen to control the exits? An architectural response to the Munich Olympics?

It wasn't because of protesters during the 60s/70s.

It was designed for that purpose. To make it more difficult for students to occupy.

Ironic.

So students standing in line to get class computer cards to take Dr. Baer's Supernatural Lit class could wrap around the building. (Actually, it was probably for smoking.)

I like the architectural style of it just fine. It is a little bland, but more inventive designs tend to age poorly and look more and more like an eyesore/specific product of their era as time passes. On most college campuses you can easily spot a few of these kinds of buildings.

I think it looks good. I've seen the office space of my spouse. It is a real improvement. I think they carpet hasn't been changed since 1982. They did a pretty good job of renovating the first floor, but the offices in the upper floors were really dingy and outdated.

The Hill Center meant a lot to me. I saw the very first video on MTV in there.

We need a lot of new around here, seems to me.

It's fine on the exterior. Seems that someone was going for the airport look inside. It just needs a few arrival and departure boards.

It had to do with the race riots in the 60's. It was meant to be a form of protection if anything bad was going down outside.

I am disappointed that the BOT approved construction for a 30 million dollar student center and disapproved construction of a 60 million dollar on campus football stadium. Which one do you think would have been more "attractive" to campus?

RE: New Student Center Renderings
You have to go with the student center every time because, at the end of the day, it's always supposed to be students first. I actually like the renders a lot and it matches well with the look being developed on University Blvd. Of course it was and still is always annoying to one of the major schools in the state that didn't have an on campus stadium, though.

I know a lot of students that thought it was odd that they were building a new Student Center when they just spent money remodeling the inside of the old one.

That Hill Center had just had a major redo a few years ago is not a secret.

Seems like Watts & Co want to trade off a football program for student centers when it shouldn't be an either/or type situation.

All part o' the plan: It's easy to say "We can't afford football!" when you preemptively spend your money elsewhere.
Look at the history- The UA BoT has knowingly denied adequate capitol improvements to the program for any real chance of success. Then along came one Bill Clark who achieved the unthinkable, and the slow death became an active murder.
